I worked with Scott when we were Navy journalists serving at Southern European Broadcasting (SEB), then changed to America Forces Network (AFN) at Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Sicily in the early 90s.
Scott was a hard charger and one of my mentors as a newly-assigned JO there. Leaned a lot from him. He was also one of the smartest guys around. Sure, he could cut up and act nutty, bit the dude was brilliant.
RIP, Scott.

Scott was one of the brightest guys I've ever met, he went directly from Upper Darby into the world of life at sea and all the things possible within the mind when one reads and writes as a way of life. We were aboard Nimitz together and made quite an impression on me at that formative stage of my life. I am directed to this page by another shipmate as we were trying to contact Scott about the passing of another JO, and similar comic type of character, who died last month. Jerome Sanda and Scott once had a weekend in Philly away from the ship and Jerome went missing in the city after running out of the bar to look for a cheesesteak. Scott searched the hospitals, jails and streets for him all weekend and came back to the ship with the greatest worry for his lost friend...only to have Jerome later that day show up aboard the ship in Virginia with several cheesesteaks in his pocket. They are both setting voyage on a new mission together.

I remember the first brief moments that I met scott, he worked in the same office that my dad did. At first shake at the hand, you could feel the heart of gold that just seemed to flow from his tye die shirt. I give my deepest blessings to him and his family. I would also like to let Kyle know that his father was one of the kindest people that I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
Just as a previous writer has written before me.
To Scott: "Fair winds and following seas"
and may his memory be carried on the wings of an angel.

Scott,
May we all find peace knowing that you live on in our memories and hearts.
"Fair Winds and Following Seas"
The Broken Chain
We little knew that morning, that God
was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
you did not go alone;
for part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide;
and though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same;
but as GOD calls us one by one,
The Chain will link again.

I remember the first day I met Scott. I was fresh off the plane in Sigonella in August 1992, and Scott was at the TV station there on base. He was showing me how he had just completed a screened-in break area just outside the studio. I'm grateful to Scott for his energy in training this new Navy broadcaster...how to screen a porch and how to anchor a newscast. God's blessings to Annette and the entire family during your loss.

I had the great fortune to know Scott during his first tour at Earle in the late 1980’s when he was a young petty officer and I was his chief. He took over as the day-to-day editor of the newspaper and approached the job with a nervous energy that still makes me smile. After I left Earle I didn’t see Scott for another decade. One day I heard someone calling my name. I didn’t have to turn around to know who it was. Scott had one of those distinct voices that stays with you forever. It was an honor to know him and work with him, even if it was only for two years way back when. My condolences to Scott's family, friends and co-workers.

My deepest sympathy and prayers to Annette and Kyle, and the entire family. Scott was a great guy to work with, a professional in every sense of the word. He was so very proud of Kyle and all his Eagle Scout endeavors; it was wonderful hearing all his stories about his family, whom he loved so very much. We at NWS Earle will miss his smile, his laugh, his work, and his presence. We are all just a little bit better for having known Scott.
