Alvin Pollack Obituary
AGE: 81 • Toms River
Alvin "Red" Pollack, 81, of Toms River, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Ocean Nursing/Rehab Center in Brick. He was born in 1933 in Asbury Park.
Alvin was an "All Shore" basketball standout at Asbury Park High School and once scored 71 points, which many believe still to be a record, in a summer league at Convention Hall. His college days were spent at Eastern Kentucky University and then at Albright College. Alvin worked for 30 years for Sears Roebuck and Co. in Middletown before retiring. Alvin started playing golf at the age of 33 and it became a passion of his throughout the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Monmouth Golfing Club. Alvin spent most of his retirement life in St. Augustine, Florida either playing golf or working part time as a ranger at St. Johns Golf Club.
Alvin was predeceased by his wife, Marian Ann Tamasi. He is survived by his sons, Barry and wife Kim and their children Courtney and Chelsea; Michael and wife Mary with their children Evan and Kyle; and daughter Lois Leff and husband Ricky and their children Jillian and Jared.
A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Interment will follow at Chesed Shel Ames Cemetery, Neptune. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Christine's Hope for kids at Christineshope.org. Call Bloomfield-Cooper for Shiva information.

I was a little sad when Al moved back to N.J. But I know he wanted to be near his family. He always spoke so highly and fondly of each one of you. I'm glad I called and spoke with him a few weeks ago. I loved playing golf with him down here in Florida. He was always so competitive. I loved him like a brother. Even when he was cantankerous. I pray God's blessings and comfort on each one of you.

Michael, Barry, Lois and your families, We are very sorry for the loss of your Dad. We will treasure our memories of golfing with "Red" in NJ; in Whispering Pines, NC during his visit at our home; and in St. Augustine, FL. "Red" would always say to me, "Chet, I wish I could be as flexible as you so I would have a longer backswing."
