Ruth Hutchinson Obituary

December 29, 1917 - November 1, 2012

Ruth M. Hutchinson, Lt. Cmdr. USN (Ret), passed away peacefully on November 1, 2012 in Menlo Park, CA.

Ruth was born in 1917 to Frederick L. Hutchinson and Minnie Morrison Hutchinson, whose families were pioneering settlers of Yuba and Sutter, California counties.

Ruth graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in Nursing and Public Health. During World War II, Ruth joined the United States Navy where she served with distinction as a United States Naval Nurse for over 20 years. She was on active duty through three wartime periods and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After her service in the Navy, Ruth worked in the Oakland school system as a Public Health Nurse.

Ruth was very interested in genealogy and was a longtime member of the California Genealogical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. At the Genealogical Society, she helped many people learn how to trace their family history. Ruth published a manuscript based on extensive research which detailed the journey of the Morrison and Hutchinson families from the early days of the American Revolution to the Gold Rush days in California.

Ruth was preceded in death by her brother and two sisters. She is survived by her two nieces and numerous cousins.

She will be buried with military honors in the family plot at the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland, CA on November 27, 2012 at 1:00 PM.
