Diane Covert Obituary

Diane Covert was born March 2, 1930, and left this world peacefully on October 27, 2010, after a long illness. She was born in Dunsmuir, CA and moved around Northern California with her family, eventually settling in Yuba City. She married Arthur Brooks in 1955, and they had 3 children. When they were older, she returned to school, and became a Head Start pre-school teacher for many years. After Arthur's death, she later married Eugene Covert, and they had several happy years together before his passing. Diane greatly enjoyed the family cabin at Lake Tahoe, and road trips to Fort Bragg, Washington state, and the San Juan Islands. She was a gourmet cook, and a wonderful holiday host. She was also a master gardener; her gardens were always full of billowing seasonal colors. Her beautiful pond gave her much pleasure. She was an avid reader, devouring two newspapers everyday to keep up with the times. She enjoyed her volunteer position for the SPCA spay and neuter clinic in Yuba City, working there for many years. Her parents, now deceased, were Claude J. Miller, a former municipal court judge in Sutter County, and Claire Miller, both who were pillars of our family. She is survived by her brother, Gary Miller (June), and her children: Alec Brooks (Susie), Hilary Brooks Barbieri (Rob), and Claudia Brooks Schwartz (David). Also surviving her are her 5 grandchildren: Morgan and Caitlin Barbieri; Julian and Eli Schwartz; and Casey Brooks; and her good friend, Dawn Chappel. There will be no services, at Diane's request. Dear Claudia, Alec, Hilary....Your Mom was such a great lady. I have such fond memories of Morley Street. Her beautiful flowers were the best part of that neighborhood. (my dad managed to help himself to a few flowers while on his walks!) You are all in my thoughts...
May her memory be eternal! xoxox

Diane was a wonderful woman whom I had the pleasure of getting to know while working at the SPCA. With in days of first starting there we shared what would be many years of laughs. I enjoyed our lunches where Diane would cook for us. She was an amazing cook. I enjoyed her stories about her silly cat Charles and the many adventures with bears at the cabin. I am glad that we stayed in contact when she left the SPCA. She would call and check in on me wanting to hear all about what was goin on in my life. I would stop by from time to time and take her to lunch where she would fill me in on what was new with her. I know that this past year was hard on her and she can now rest peacfully. I will always remember Diane with a smile on her face from a sassy remark she had just made. Please accept my thoughts and prayers in your time of loss.

Dear Claudia, Alex & Hilary,
Hattie, mom and now Diane, all within 2 short years. I know it was so hard for mom to lose Hattie and I am sure it was really hard for Diane to lose both of her good friends and partners in crime. Those gals did have some fun though and lived life to the fullest - whenever they could get away with it!
I know how hard it is, no one can replace your mom. So sorry for your loss.
Take Care,
love,
Hattie Guy

To The Miller Family,
Diane was a great friend to our mother Hortense Givens, who we recently lost too. We remember their trips to the cabin in Tahoe. Our mom always had such great memories there with Diane. Our hearts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

To The Miller Family,
Dianne was a dynamic lady and I feel privelged to have known her... In the past, many many years back, I house & dog sat for her ... We shared a common bond in plants. I enjoyed her garden and her pond... I admired her knowledge of plants and coy fish... I know she will be missed...

Diane was a very valued member of the animal care community.

For many years she volunteered in the SPCA spay/neuter clinic; every day greeting customers and answering questions. Her contributions were beyond measure.

One year, she hosted a holiday gathering for SPCA volunteers at her lovely home. I will never forget her eclectic style.

Diane taught me a lot about volunteerism and about the giving spirit within. I will never forget her.
