Gigi Cartoscelli-Purdie (Adamski) Obituary

Passed suddenly Saturday October 16, 2010 as a result of severe complications from contracting the H1N1 virus. Gigi was born October 29, 1962 in San Diego, CA; she moved to Yuba City as a child. Gigi was a 1980 graduate of Yuba City High School and graduate of SCU, Chico where she received a degree in early childhood development. Her first full time job was being a full time mom to her two children Chellsea Noelle and Mitchel Dean Cartoscelli. Her only goal was to prepare her children to live the best life they could. She succeeded. She instilled in them her work ethic, her love of life, her sense of humor, her beautiful smile, and her unbridled spirit. Gigi recently returned to graduate school, where she received her Masters Degree in Education, graduating Magna Cum Laude. It is also during this time she met and fell in love with her soul mate, best friend and love of her life, Jeffrey Purdie. As she described it, "her big do-over". They were inseparable from the moment they laid eyes on each other and were married on August 1st of this year. Their time together was tragically short. Gigi was at her happiest working out at the gym, spending time with her family and husband, enjoying her yard, walking her dog Luke, and traveling. This is how Gigi would like to be remembered. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey, her children Chellsea and Mitchel, mother Glenna Jo Adamski, sister Andrea Becker (Adamski), brother Tom Adamski, father Gerard Adamski, three step-children Leslie, Christopher and Laura. She also leaves behind countless dear friends and her first grade class, the Purdie "Penguins". She was preceded in death by her brother Glenn Adamski. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at St. Isidore's Church at 3PM. A celebration of her life will follow at her beloved home. In lieu of flowers Gigi would have preferred donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Jeff, Chellsea and Mitchel would like to thank everyone for the support during this horrific ordeal, with a special thank you to John Cartoscelli, Rob and Marian Purdie and the entire Cartoscelli family. Such a loss to Chellsea and Mitch and her family and friends. I can't believe it's been 9 years since Gigi left us. I think of her often and still look for her at BelAire. She would be so proud of the kids and would love her first grandchild Lyla. Rest in peace sweetheart. Sharen and Cal

Dear Andrea and family,
I am truly shocked and saddened by your loss. I always admired Gigi's determination and zest for life. My thoughts and heart are with you during the Holiday Season.

November 26, 2010

Dear Mitch and Chellsea, I just heard from Connor over this Holiday about your Mom. I was very surprised and saddened. Your Mom was a beautiful person with such a positive spirit, as you both know! She was a great support to me over the years-even though we saw each other infrequently. You both embody her zeal for living. She was so proud of both of you. Take comfort in knowing that her love is with you always. With great warmth, Clare (Connor's Mom)

Dear Chellsea and Mitch,
I was so saddened to hear about your mother's death. I cannot forget the image of her at the end of the pool during your races moving her arms in time with every stroke your took. I asked her once who got the most exercise, you or her. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I remember Mrs. Cartoscelli being around my elementary school when I went to the same one as her kids. I attended the same high school as her, at-the-time, ,soon-to-be stepson Chris. My prayers are with you all and I am so sorry. To Mitch and Chris (since I really only knew you both in your family), please let me know if there is anything I can do to help your family. Mr. Purdie, I never met you but I heard a lot about you from Chris, and I am sorry that your time with GiGi was so short. You both should have had years of happines. Please accept my condolences. You will all be in my prayers.

Jeffrey, I must admit, I did not know Gigi. But am so moved by this story, that I must convey sentiments of sympathy to you, all of your children (both Gigi's and yours). I know nothing I can say can help heal your heart, but I pray that God holds you in the palm of his hand as he makes Gigi whole again and comfortable in His house. Breath in and out and be well. Angels SWARMING around you all!

I am so sad and shocked by this loss. My thoughts are with Gigi's family. Gigi was a student teacher in my classroom and was adored by me and all the students. She lit up the class with her smile and enthusiasm. She was also a breath of fresh air for me and helped remind me of why I love teaching. She will truly be missed.

I am so sad and shocked to hear of the the horrible news about Gigi. It is truly a loss! I remember her visit to Tierra Buena and observation in my classroom. We had a great conversation. She was a terrific mother and I bet she was also a wonderful teacher. May God bless and keep all of her family and friends close to Him; we WILL see her again.

Dear Chellsea, Mitch, and family: Our hearts are breaking for you. We wish that there were words that could ease your pain but know only too well that it is not possible. Please know that you are constantly in our thoughts and hope that the love of your family and friends will help you get through this. Your mom loved you dearly and was an inspiration to us all. We have so many happy memories of our "swim family". Connie, Rachel, and Caitlin French
