Gerald Schillerstrom Obituary
Gerald "Jerry" Bryon Schillerstrom was born on September 13, 1941, in Pembine, Wisconsin. He passed away on February 22, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was 75 years of age.
Jerry cherished his Wisconsin childhood which included working on the farm and hunting and fishing in the woods with his brothers. He graduated from Pembine High School in 1959. He enlisted in the Navy in May of 1962 and was honorably discharged in May of 1968. While in the Navy, he proudly served as Petty Officer 3rd Class in charge of personnel on the USS Mosopelea which was the smallest ocean-going fleet tug.
Jerry married Pamela Joan Schanck on June 3, 1966, in Sioux Falls, SD. He served in the United States Postal Service for 41 years, working primarily in the downtown location in Passports, Claims, and Inquiries. His duties ranged from taking passport pictures to hand-cancelling the commemorative stamps for the Freedom Train. He enjoyed being part of a league bowling team for over 20 years. He was an accomplished woodcarver and was elected President of South Dakota Woodcarvers from 1987-1989. His passion was creating wildlife artwork.
Jerry and Pam had two sons, Timothy and James. Jerry realized a dream when his sons married and in his words and heart, he gained two daughters, Roselyn and Niki. Additionally, his grandchildren, Jacob, Morgan, and Ian, brought him great JOY! He loved teaching them how to fish, taking them out to eat, building puzzles with them, telling them stories about Wisconsin, and showing them how to fix things. Being their "Papa" was one of his greatest honors.
Jerry is survived by his children and grandchildren; a brother Wayne and his wife Judy, Iron Mountain, MI; his wife's siblings and their spouses, Judy and Charles Berdahl, Sioux Falls, SD, Karen and Bob Welnhofer, Tigard, OR, and Fred and Regina Schanck, Phoenix, AZ; and beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, his parents, and several siblings.
Jerry's memorial celebration is Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 7 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD. The family will be present for fellowship and a meal from 5-7 pm. Public visitation is from 1-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, direct memorials to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls.

Tim and Roselyn, I'm so sorry you lost your dad. I didn't know him well but when I saw him he always had a smile. God Bless you both for taking good care of him. Your family is in my prayers.

Our sincerest condolences to your family. Pam and Jerry were amazing people. They were our favorite regulars at our restaurant. When Pam passed, you could see the sadness in Jerrys eyes and I know they are happy to be in each others arms again, they were truly soul mates!
