Beth Parks

Beth Parks, Sioux Falls, SD, died January 30, 2014, following a six year battle with GIST cancer.

Beth Yvonne Parks was born August 1, 1930, in Jasper, MN, to Lester and Alma (Handberg) Burg.

She graduated from Jasper High School in 1948, and then worked at Dakota Iron Store in Sioux Falls until 1950.

Beth married Robert Parks on September 24, 1950. They lived in Waynesville, MO., then Harrisburg, PA., where she worked at the Insurance Company of North America and Indiantown Gap Military Reservation. They returned to Jasper in 1951, where she worked at Jasper Drug Store and Jasper Telephone Company. They moved to Minneapolis in 1952, then to Sioux Falls in 1957. Beth was a homemaker until working for Parks Insurance from 1990 to 1996.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a past member of Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, reading, working on genealogy, puzzles, and loved spending time at Round Lake.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffery (Sheila) Parks, and Jay Parks, both of Sioux Falls; daughter, Barbara Parks, Pequot Lakes, MN; a grandson, Austin (Becky) Parks, Sioux Falls; five granddaughters, Whitney (Brent) Schuettpelz, of Denver, CO., Morgan, Mallory, Alison (Carl) Serck and Ashton Parks, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and a brother, Wesley Burg, Glasgow, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, infant Dorothy Burg, Lona Walvatne, and Lois Jansma.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday February 4, 2014, in the Chapel of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at noon, Monday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. Interment will follow at 1:15 pm, at the Jasper City Cemetery, Jasper, MN.
