NELSONVILLE - Ruth Jaymes, 90, of Nelsonville, formerly of Mount Vernon, met her Lord and Savior face to face on Thursday morning, Jan. 25, 2018 at the Lanfair Nursing Home in Lancaster. She was born on Feb. 22, 1927 in Troy to the late Ralph and Anna (Puterbaugh) McGillvary.
Ruth graduated from Covington High School and Olivet Nazarene College with a degree in Education. She was an educator for many years in the public school system and also taught Sunday School. Ruth was a lady that dedicated her life to helping others and serving her Lord. She was a wonderful singer and a talented seamstress. Spending time with family and friends was also one of Ruth's favorite moments.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Miriam (Rev. Michael) Thomas of Nelsonville and Mary (Bob) West of Mount Vernon; her sons, Paul Jaymes of Piqua and Rev. Jon (Pam) Jaymes of South Lyon, Michigan; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brothers, Floyd (Marie) McGillvary of Troy and Bruce (Jeanette) McGillvary of Wichita Falls, Texas; sisters, Pauline (Art) Kies of Piqua, Jean Woods of Tipp City, Doris Goens of California and Janet (Ron) Johnson of Kankakee, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Richard W. Jaymes in 2010; a son, David Jaymes in 2017; brothers, Martin, Carl, Ellis and Clyde McGillvary; and sisters, Miriam McGillvary, Onnalee Kaufman and Esther Langston
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Ruth at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon with Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
