Family-Placed Death Notice

GETTMAN, Martin Martin Lee Gettman, age 49, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 20 months, Danielle (Taylor) Gettman of Atlanta; daughters and son-in-laws, Jenna and Jorell Elie of California and Tricia and Brian Ray of Tennessee; son, Ryan Gettman of Florida; mother, Susan Gettman of Virginia; granddaughter, Presleigh Elie; sister Joanne Applegate, of Virginia; nephew, Allen Applegate; two nieces, Kennedy and Addison Taylor; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Jill Taylor of Cumming, GA; mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Suzanne Taylor of Norcross, GA. Martin was a 1978 graduate of Tabb High School in Yorktown, Virginia and a 1983 graduate DeVry University in Atlanta, Georgia with an Engineering degree. He was a beloved husband, devoted son and brother, loving father, respected son-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle, trusted colleague and valued friend to all. This very humble man was taken from us too soon and deeply loved by many. Marty and Danielle were both long standing McKesson employees. They met on the 2nd floor at Windward in 2005; and so their love story began; They married in January 2010. Marty was a gentle and loving father who showered his children with unconditional love. Jenna, Tricia and Ryan have grown to become loving individuals. Marty worked for McKesson Provider Technologies and led the Care Bridge Services Team for the last 12 years. He loved his job and loved his team. Marty was devoted to his family, friends, and community and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. In lieu of cut flowers, donations may be made to the Sagamore Hills Civic Association for the Marty Gettman Memorial Fund; SCHA Memorial Fund for Marty Gettman P.O. Box 49207, Atlanta, GA. 30359. The Service to Celebrate the life of Martin Lee Gettman will be held Monday, September 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Juan F. Areiza serving as Celebrant. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. where you are invited to share a story about Marty. We are residents of Sagamore Hills and we were shocked to hear the sad news. Stan and I are praying for your family daily as you grieve this sudden terrible loss.We prayed for the repose of his soul and for comfort to your family at this time, at Mass, at Immaculate Heart of Mary yesterday. Marty will be remembered as a McKesson colleague and for his valuable contributions to his neighborhood as a member of the board of the Sagamore Hills Civic Associaton, and as a genuinely nice person. He will be greatly missed by each of us who knew him.
