I just heard about RW's passing yesterday while talking with Keith Masback and reminiscing about our Army days at FT Bragg. I fondly remember you (Sharon) showing me many adorable photos of RW when he was little and sharing your parenting advice with me when I was pregnant with my first child. It was obvious how much you loved him and it's no surprise to me that he grew up to be such a fine man. My heart goes out to you, Deacon, and your family. May RW rest in peace - his sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Mr and Mrs Collins there are no words that I can say to help ease the pain you must be feeling. I was in shock when I heard of Roberts passing. When I saw his name in the paper I knew it sounded familiar and then I saw his picture. My how he had grown. I remember Robert and his amazing smile and love for life. I had the pleasure of meeting him as well as you two at Tyrone Elementary almost daily as I came to visit my mother. Robert was one of brightest boys I had ever met and I know you both were proud. To Nicole, your heart is breaking now and will be for a while. I have seen picture of you two posted all over Roberts face book and can tell that you two shared an amazing love. My heart hurts for each of you and I will hold you in my prayers each night. Robert was certainly an angel on Earth while he was hear and he will forever be with you in your hearts.
With Love:

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .

I did not know your son but I'm thankful that he was willing to go and to fight for our country and for our Freedom. I was at the Cemetery today with so many others to say "Thank You" to him and to all the other Men in Uniform that were there to say their last Good Byes. May God give you comfort and surround you with His loving arms during this difficult time. May God be with his childhood Sweetheart and give her comfort and strength also. All of you are in my Prayers.

I pray that he will be with you like two footprints in the sand. God Bless and Keep You Always.

I am so sorry for your loss. What a fine young man you raised! He died a hero's death, serving his country. I noticed quite a few references to Mississippi roots. I grew up in Greenville and graduated from USM. My daughter will go there this fall. I always feel a kinship with people from MS...I know the kids there are raised right, and it is so obvious as I read Robert's obituary. One of my 14 yr old identical twins told me last month he wants to be a Marine and play football at Annapolis. I hope he turns out as well as your son did!
May God grant you peace. The Collins family will be in my prayers.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

How do I say thank you? No words will ever bring back your son. He is a hero. He's what every mother and father wants in a son or daughter. I wish I could have met him. It's men and women like your son who give me hope that our nation will endure and prosper. Remember no matter the ultimate outcome of this war, your son's efforts were not in vain. The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms 1Lt. Robert W. Collins. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Robert. And to Robert it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while deployed with the U.S. Army in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Robert, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Robert’s family and loved ones.
