Family-Placed Death Notice

PLAYER, Frank Anthony (Tony), Jr. Frank Anthony (Tony) Player, Jr. of Atlanta died September 7, 2009. Mr. Player was born November 10, 1938 in Atlanta and was the son of Frank Anthony and Miriam (Mimi) Fleming Player. He was the great- great-grandson of Dr. Milton Anthony, one of the founders of the Medical College of Georgia and also the great-great-grandson of Alexander McFarlane Wynn, D.D., who was responsible for the conception and plan of erecting the Wesley Monumental Church in Savannah, GA, the first church ever designed as a distinctive monument to the memory of John and Charles Wesley. Mr. Player graduated from The Westminster Schools and from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management. Following graduation Mr. Player received a commission in the United States Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Independence during the 1962 Cuban missile crisis when Independence acted as a key participant in the U.S. naval blockade of Cuba. He was a member of Christ Fellowship of Atlanta and was retired from Cox Enterprises. Survivors include his cherished friend, Claire Janas of Atlanta; and sister Cora Fleming Player Culpepper and husband Manning of Columbus, GA. He leaves nephews Michael Anthony Hopkins, Atlanta, Marlene and James Manning Culpepper Jr., and Nicole and Frank Fleming Culpepper of Columbus, GA; and great nieces and nephews, Sarah Isabel Culpepper, Haley Fleming Culpepper, Aidan Dawson Culpepper and Ian Fleming Culpepper, all of Columbus, GA. Additionally, six first cousins will miss him dearly as will countless friends. Pallbearers are Michael A. Hopkins, James M. Culpepper, Frank F. Culpepper, Eric H. Henderson, H. Bruce Montgomery, Malcolm F. Montgomery, Juaquin Moribona, Robert L. Thompson, and Robert G. Wellon. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Patterson's Spring Hill. Funeral Services will be held at Spring Hill Chapel at 11:00 am, Friday, September 11, 2009. Pastor Charles Strong officiating. Private interment will be at Westview Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Tony Player may be made to Christ Fellowship of Atlanta, 274 Russell Ridge Dr, Lawrenceville, GA 30043 or the charity of your choice.

Tony will be missed, especially by my sweet friend, Claire Janas. He was a precious, humble and faithful friend. I will always remember Tony as the official door keeper and greeter at Christ Fellowship. He had a way of connecting just the right people to one another.
