John Hutto Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

JOHN TERRELL HUTTO JR. John Hutto died suddenly and unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 24, 2007. It was a shock to all who knew John, as he was vital and energetic in spite of the culmination of his ten year struggle against kidney failure and successful kidney transplantation in April 2006. During all that time, he worked to fulfill his responsibilities, provide for his family, and maintain friendships, old and new. John was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta and lived in Brookhaven until age ten, when the family moved to the developing Sandy Springs in 1959. He graduated from Sandy Springs High School with the Class of 1968. John attended the University of Georgia, where he was a brother at the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration in 1978. During that time, he also completed a four year enlistment in the US Air Force, working in SAC missile control, where he utilized his love of scuba diving by diving in missile water reservoirs to make repairs. After helping out on the family farm, John settled on his true occupation - Ford cars. His first car was a 1965 Mustang 289 four barrel, and he loved Mustangs ever after. He went to work for Ford Motor Company in 1978 and had worked for Gene Evans Ford in the later half of his career, winning several national awards for his work and building strong bonds with his business partners in the Ford Parts industry. John met and fell in love with Barbara Edenfield in 1978. They married on June 23, 1979 in Darien, GA. Barbara is known by many as a former third grade teacher at Woodward Academy. Funny, she was the daughter of a Ford dealer in Glennville and Darien, Georgia. Together, they forged many deep and enduring friendships in both the Ford and Woodward communities. John also had a love of sailing, UGA football, and good barbeque. He enjoyed sharing these three things with his friends and family. Their daughter, Susan Lang Hutto (Suzie), 23, followed in John's footsteps by majoring in finance at the University of Georgia. She currently resides in Jacksonville, FL, where she works as a financial analyst at CSX. John is survived by his wife, Barbara Edenfield Hutto of Atlanta, GA, his daughter, Susan Lang Hutto of Jacksonville, FL, his mother, Barbara McKinney Hutto of Sandy Springs, GA, his father, John T. Hutto, Sr. of Woodstock, GA, and his two brothers, Mark C. Hutto, M.D. of Atlanta, GA and Matthew C. Hutto of Orange Park, FL. He is further survived by a niece and three nephews, Abbie, William, Kyle, and Kevin. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Piedmont Hospital Transplant Services. Contributions may be sent to: Development Office, Piedmont Hospital, 1968 Peachtree Rd, NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. After all is said and done, John was a man of principles. He believed in truth and honesty. He spoke his mind and lived what he believed. He was courageous in the face of adversity and encouraging to all his friends and family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A visitation at 1:00 followed by a service at 2:00 in celebration of his life will be held at the Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 (404-255-8511) on Sunday, October 28, 2007.

John was truly one of God's angels, shared with us for too short a time. I cannot find the words to tell each family member how very sorry I am for your loss. The obituary was so accurately descriptive. I'm certain many of us mourning him are so thankful that we had the opportunity to know such a wonderful man. Please know each of you whom he loved so dearly, are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Barbara and Susan,

So very sorry to hear of this. John was a fine, positive person and will be remembered as such by many. His nature was one of kindness, respect for others and good humor.

Although we lost touch in the last few years I always enjoyed being his tennis partner - he took the game for what it was, and always showed good sportsmanship.

My prayers are with you all.

Even
though I met John for the first time very recently at a Ford PSMAC meeting in Dearborn, I
know the sadness you are feeling at this time of loss. Please know that
I will keep all of you in my prayers through these trying times. I have
a 19 year old son who received a transplanted liver at the age of two
so I can relate to the ups and downs of organ related disease.
Sincerely,
