REST IN PEACE SIR DONALD

Tim Gafnea

December 9, 2010

To Donald,

I am so sorry you are gone without me saying goodbye. I loved your passion and spirit so much. I have beautiful memories of you that I will cherish forever. I loved how you would make poetry from the simplest subject - like watching a baseball game and listening to you wax on about the 'fluidity and motion of the batters stance or pitchers movement on the mound'. I remember your curry shrimp and how you never seemed to make enough, at least for me. But what I will treasure the most is you reading at my wedding - a beautiful prose tying baseball to the new love of two young lovers on their wedding day. Luckily, I have it recorded.

Donald, I know I did not see you in the last few years - I thought of you often. Thank you so much for being so tender and giving me such comforting words when my daughter Isabella died - your amazing sculpture that you gave me the day of her life celebration rests against her ashes and every time I looked at them I thought of you.
I am not sure I ever told you how much that meant to me.
Peace my Brother - may your family and Brenda have comfort in the beautiful life you shared with all of us.
