Ronald Maples Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

MAPLES, Ronald RONALD STEPHEN MAPLES Ronald Stephen Maples, age 69, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, after a courageous fight against multiple complications following a heart ablation. Ron was born May 19,1940, in Stanislaus County, California (Modesto), to the late Aubrey Maples and Ina Marie Hedgecock. He grew up in Modesto, California, and joined the Navy, where he served as a sonar man aboard the last battery-powered submarine, USS GrayBack SSG 574. Upon completion of his military service, Ron joined Household Finance and in the ensuing 25 years worked his way from an entry-level position to that of a Senior Executive. In 1984 he joined First Family Financial, Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked the next 15 years and retired in 1999 as the company's President. In September 1999, Ron retired to the Lake Oconee area with his wife Linda and spent his time golfing, enjoying his many golfing buddies and the tranquility of the lake area. He was a member of the Lake Oconee Community Church. His wife stated, "Ron never met a stranger and loved his retirement years with his many golf buddies and just enjoying the overall beauty of the lake area. He was extremely kind-hearted toward animals and loved his family unconditionally. He was loved by all who met him, and those who knew him treasured his outgoing and caring nature. I could never have found a more supportive husband in all of my endeavors and count him as the best mentor, friend and husband anyone could ever have." His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 24 years, Linda Bowman Maples; son Mark Stephen Maples; daughter Ronda Lee Maples; son William G. Maples; grandsons Michael Griffiths and William Maples; his beloved "critters," Tuffy and Tiger (cats), and Ninja (his much loved dog). A Celebration of Ron's life will be held in late August. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Oconee Regional Humane Society, ORHS, 6350 Lake Oconee Parkway, Suite 102, PMB 178, Greensboro, GA 30642. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
