Dan KEPNER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 23 to Apr. 24, 2014.
KEPNER, Dan Daniel Robert Kepner, 58, a dedicated father, husband, and coach, who resided in Alpharetta, GA, passed away in an automobile accident on April 17, 2014. The celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia. The location of the service is 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA 30075. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Kim Kepner, his sister Margaret Garrett and her husband Gene Garrett. His only son, Benjamin Kepner, is currently traveling the world and living in Viveiro, España. Finally, his extended family, friends, and colleagues also survive him. One of his greatest accomplishments was being the patriarch of his family. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Robert Henry Kepner and Nellie Youngblood on December 2nd, 1955. He graduated from Ocean Springs High School in Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, Biology and Education. He attended Northpoint Community Church and enjoyed watching his wife serve as a greeter to the community of Alpharetta. He was driven to compete as a leader in all aspects of the life that he lived. Dan was a person that helped to build communities at work and in sports. His interests were best described as sociable --- science, insurance, tennis, baseball, music, education, and the great outdoors. His love of sports, cribbage, barbecuing, and camping brought him closer to the Brady family and local community. His career is best described as sales leader turned entrepreneur. He started his career at Allstate Insurance after a short stint as a teacher. He demonstrated his insurance expertise with further education certifications in CPCU, ARM, Series 63, and Series 6. He worked his way up from Operations Supervisor to Unit Manager, participated in the Manpower Rotational Development Program, and then became a Sales Agent at Northlake Mall. After meeting the Allstate requirements, he started his own Allstate Agency in Woodstock brokering agency agreements, B2B & B2C sales, underwriting commercial and personal lines insurance products, recruitment and sales management, and customer service with his wife Kim Kepner. Together the Kepner Agency would grow to a $2.5 million book of business with a renewal retention ratio of 90%. He won many prestigious awards including the 'Chairman's Inner Circle' as a top 1% of Allstate Agents, the 'Allstate President's Conference,' and 'National Champions' resulting in numerous unforgettable vacation trips. He ended his career as a AAA Sales Producer selling Travelers, Safeco, Foremost, Infinity, MetLife, Donegal and Progressive. He is best known as "CAP'N DAN" and "BIG DAN" by his friends and loved ones. He was a passionate Fantasy Football player and loved watching the Braves. Whether it was as a youth baseball/basketball coach, the drummer of Pearl Rocket Band, building science fair projects, racing Pinewood derbies, or poker with the guys (WAIT!), Dan always gave it his all and will never be forgotten. He instilled in his family the values to treat families genuinely and help the community. We'll miss him, but remember him as symbol to live our lives generously.

I knew Dan just a short time and as always, after we lose someone, we wish we had taken the time to get to know them better. Dan... you will be missed by your BNI Family.
