Jim Beauchamp Obituary

Former Braves player and coach Jim Beauchamp died Tuesday - Christmas Day - after a long battle with acute myelogenous leukemia. He was 68.

Beauchamp was the bench coach for the Braves from 1991 to '98, a part of the team's World Series championship in 1995. He most recently served as supervisor of minor-league field operations for the organization.

Beauchamp spent 22 years with the Braves as part of a 50-year career in baseball, in both the major and minor leagues. He had to leave spring training with the Braves in mid-March and was diagnosed with leukemia soon after.

"He was always on me and riding me, but always wanting the best for me because he knew what I had. He was always trying to get the best out of me," Braves player Jeff Francoeur said in April after a hospital visit with Beauchamp.

Beauchamp, who was born Aug. 21, 1939 in Vinita, Okla., is believed to be the only player to wear an Atlanta uniform in Ponce de Leon Park (with the Atlanta Crackers), Atlanta Fulton-County Stadium and Turner Field (as a Braves player and coach).

"As a son, my fondest memory of him was how much he told us he loved us," son Kash Beauchamp said Thursday. "As tough as he was as a competitor and a baseball man, he had a very soft side when it came to being a father."

Beauchamp had a 10-year major league career, with several teams, and hit .231. He played for the Braves in 1965 and 1967, appearing in eight games.

He is survived by his wife, Pam, and five children: Kash, Tim, Ann Rene, Shanna and Lauren. He is also survived by six grandchildren; a sister, Patti Crockett; a sister-in-law, Kay Beauchamp; a stepmother, Lee Jean Beauchamp; and several nieces and nephews.

"My dad's motto was to put God first, family second and your job third. If you did that, everything would fall into place and good things would happen," Kash Beauchamp said. "And he lived that."

A memorial service will be held Jan. 5 at Southwest Christian Church, 4330 Washington Road, East Point, Ga., at 2 p.m. There will also be services held in Phenix City, Ala., and his hometown of Grove, Okla., where the high school baseball field is named in his honor, in the spring.

I was touched to read Don Pisker's comments on Jim Beauchamp.I remember Don when he played in Syracuse in 1979-80. I was a director of the Syracuse Chiefs Knothole Club when i met Jim in 1982 when he managed the Chiefs for three seasons. His son Kash also played in Syracuse for his father. I remember being in his office discussing the Chiefs M.V.P. award.I had a player in mind but jim would tell me otherwise because he saw more of a player besides what he did on the field.I wish you peace and all the loving memories .God Bless. Although it's been almost 7 years since Jim went home to be with our Lord it sometimes feels like yesterday . I was just reading messages again and I appreciate all of them so much , they still touch my heart and they are such a testament to the man he was. Our younger grandchildren can now get a glimpse of their grand-dad by reading these. I thank you !

What a coincidence, I was working on a church in Grove and was just driving through town, looking around and there it was ,"my name" standing bold and proud for the world to see. I was quite humbled by that sight. I send my passion, as I recently lost my Dad as well.

Mrs Beauchamp, Shanna, Lauren, Kash, Ann Rene and Tim-

I am so very sorry for your loss. Shanna you are my best friend and I want you to know I am here for you, always. I know time has gone by and there have been many changes since your dad passed, but I am convinced he left you a special gift. Your beautiful baby boy. He is a true miracle. Your dad was very kind to me, I enjoyed the Allison Kraus concert and the steak dinner in Phenix City with the whole family that he insisted on paying for. He will be missed.

Dear Pam and family,
I know this is past due but my children just found this. I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I am grateful that I had the chance to reconnect with you people and have the chance to speak with you and Jim a few times last summer. He was such a great guy and was very much admired by myself and Russ. I was so glad that my girls had the opportunity to meet Jim when the Braves came to Philadelphia back in late 90's. He gave them both an idea of the life their father had when Jim was his manager with the Astros organization. Please give me call sometime I would love to talk with you. Please know you and the children are in my prayers.

To the Beauchamp Family,
I was told of Jim's passing just a few days ago. You have been in my prayers since I was told. I was blest to have played ball with Jim for a few years in the Cardinal organization. I was 18 when I played with him in Tulsa in 1960. He was a leader then and looked up to even at the ripe old age of 21. I saw him last in Chicago a few years ago, and he asked me to get in touch with him in either San Diego or Los Angeles, I regret that I didn't. He was a wonderful man who did believe in God, family, and occupation. He will truly be missed.

May God be with Jim's family in this time of mourning. I met Jim when he was managing the Indianapolis Indians in 1980. He was very nice to the fans he met. We met his son Tim there also. Jim was a good manager. He was an important part of the Indians
building into a championship team in the middle and late 1980s.
Jim will be missed.

Pam, Kash and family,

I am grieved to hear about Jim's passing. When I got to the big leagues, Jim was a team mate of mine in Cincinnati. We called him the Bull. He taught me how to conduct myself as a professional athlete both on and off the field. He certainly lived the kind of life Kash describes. I will miss him, and all the great times we had playing together and doing the Braves Fantasy Camps. Jim is in God's Hall of Fame now and I will look forward to seeing him when I get there. May the peace and comfort that only The Lord can only give at this time be with you all.

Dear Mrs Beauchamp, Kash, Tim, Ann Rene, Shanna, and Lauren, I am sorry for your loss but I am sure Jim is up in Heaven smiling down on you all right now. We lived on your block in Rockville Centre when Jim played for the Mets in 1973. I talked Kash into playing on the Rec Center team in RVC and of course Kash won the championship for us. The kids in the neighborhood thanked me for years. I remember how kind your parents always were to us and how close the family was. You are in our prayers.

Beauchamp Family,
As you all know being from Grove is something to be proud of but growing up playing ball on the field that is now named after Jim was an honor. Not only a High School team mate of my dads but a true friend. Jim always took me and treated me like his own. For that he will always be a hero to me. We are all thinking of you guys and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. We will be in touch soon. Dad and I are planning on seeing you all Saturday.

To all of the Beauchamp family:
Pam,I have had Jim and your family in my prayers for months in hopes that he would recover and that this day would be far into the futher, however,it was God's will and He makes 'NO' mistakes. I have met very few people that was as good and nice and sincere as Jim. The world and many friends have lost a "Good Person" and a true friend. I know what you and your kids have been thru and what you will be going thru. I went thru it when Diane died of cancer, you know. Just know that Jim has- beat us their- and I know that he is Their,in Heaven, free from pain and worry. If, at some point, you need someone to talk to call me. My prayers will continue for you and your family.

Thoughts and prayers to the Beauchamp Family with the passing of a true baseball ambassador, Jim Beauchamp. Here, in Richmond, VA, "Beach" is forever remembered for leading Richmond to the championship as a player in 1967, and then returning to manage the team to an IL crown in 1989 with son, Kash, on the team. I was fortunate to have worked with the Richmond Braves during the '89 season and it was a privilege to work with a professional the caliber of Jim Beauchamp. It was great to see him move to Atlanta and assist with their success, especially the World Championship in 1995. The Braves franchise has been fortunate to have quality personnel throughout its system and one of the best was Jim Beauchamp. To paraphrase the Irish Blessing, "may God hold Jim Beauchamp in the palm of His Hand"

Pam, Lauren & Shanna,

All I knew about Jim was he was a very meek and mild man. He always spoke and carried on a conversation, but was so calm as you are Pam. I know he is a great loss to his family and friends and Lauren, just know I am up the street. I know what it means to loose a dad. Jim & Pam were always there for Lauren and Shanna and Pam will continue. Just know that Jim is watching over his family a long side of our Lord and Savior and that will sustain you all through the many years of your lives and your children's lives. Harpo, Emily and I are always here for your family and send our deepest sympathy in this time of sadness.

To the Beauchamp Family,
I am a great baseball fan on all levels, but I really enjoy the Braves. I actually had the opportunity to meet Jim Beauchamp twice. The first time was during the strike year at spring training when several coaches signed a Braves jersey for me. The second time was much more exciting for me. He held a baseball clinic sometime in January of 1996 at McIntosh High School in Peachtree City that I attended. He had his World Series ring from the previous season and actually let me put it on. I remember that it was way too big - even on my thumb. What a thrill to actually see and handle a World Series ring. I treasure that memory. May God bless and comfort all of you as you grieve over your loss.
