Clinton BASTIN Obituary

BASTIN, Clinton Clinton Bastin 86, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014. Clinton was born June 4, 1927, in Lancaster, Kentucky, son of Clinton Bowen and Adelaide Klingman Bastin. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during and immediately after World War II, he earned a degree in chemical engineering at Georgia Tech in 1950. He worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at the Savannah River Plant in South Carolina and then the U.S. Department of Energy in Germantown, Maryland. His 41.5-year federal career included serving as manager for nuclear programs and nuclear waste disposal, U.S. coordinator for collaborative nuclear research and technology exchange, and lead on various nonproliferation initiatives with other nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency. He also was active in the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), serving as local president for several years. Clinton was a passionate advocate of energy conservation and nuclear peace. After retiring, he continued to speak and write, promoting the peaceful use of nuclear power. He especially was pleased to deliver the keynote address at the 1996 international conference on nuclear safety in Moscow to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. Clinton enjoyed learning about new cultures during his work travels. He loved many different kinds of music and with wife Barbara regularly attended the Atlanta Opera and Ballet. He always maintained a home vegetable garden, sharing his wonderful tomatoes through the neighborhood. He also was an avid fan of the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, and especially his beloved Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to your favorite charity. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, children Clint Bastin (Dawn) of Novato, CA; Nancy Perry (David) of Yorktown, VA; Anna McKee (Paul) of Seattle, WA; and Herb Bastin (Lisa) of Decatur, GA; grandchildren Matthew Perry; Kate, Jane, and Emma Bastin; brothers Al and Ken; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 1, with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of A. S. Turner Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one in death. Even Jesus Christ was saddened when his beloved friend Lazarus died. Please look to God for comfort. He cares for you.
