Ann Austin Obituary

AUSTIN, Ann DeVore Ann DeVore Austin, 81, of Alpharetta was born on January 26, 1933 and died on December 14, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Austin, parents Fred and Lala DeVore, and brother John DeVore. Ann grew up in the Crabapple community and was a member of Crabapple First Baptist Church for over 73 years. She attended Northwestern Elementary School and graduated from Milton High School (where she was captain of the first cheerleading squad) in 1951. After graduation, Ann was employed by Elliott Company for 30 years until the closing of the Atlanta office. She then worked for Process and Power Equipment for 10 years before her retirement. She married Al Austin from the then Ocee community in July, 1951 while he was serving in the United States Air Force. They were married for 57 years before his death in 2008. She still lived in the house they built together and shared, and she had been there for over 60 years prior to her death. Ann's pleasures of life were the Atlanta Braves, NASCAR racing, TV, and entertaining her friends and family at cookouts and ice cream socials. She is survived by sons Terry (Ann) Austin of Roswell, and Tommy (Jennifer) Austin of Milton; two step grandsons, Chris (Lisa) Edmunds of Atlantic Beach, FL, and Michael Edmunds of Atlanta. She is also survived by sisters Juanita Matthews of Shreveport, LA, and Sarah (Ralph) Rucker of Milton; sister-in law Fayron DeVore of Canton; brother-in-law Pete (Margaret) Austin of Milton; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Northside Chapel on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 2 PM until 4 PM, and 6 PM until 8 PM. Services will be held at Crabapple First Baptist Church on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery, Roswell, GA.
