Philip DIETZ Obituary

DIETZ, Philip C. Philip C. Dietz, 85, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2014. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Sam and Esther Dietz, he lived for the past 19 years in Atlanta, GA. Phil earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Colorado, Boulder and completed post-graduate coursework in art and design at Rhode Island School of Design. After serving as Lieutenant and Publishing Officer in active duty for the U.S. Navy, Phil worked as an account executive for prominent Madison Avenue advertising agencies such as Grey Advertising and national magazine publishing companies such as Fairchild/Capital Cities Communications. In the 1980s, Phil founded his own trade magazine publishing company and an advertising representative firm. A golf enthusiast from an early age, Phil enjoyed working with Golf Magazine and PGA Magazine among other sports-related publications. A highly skilled artist, Phil loved working as director of advertising sales for ART PAPERS magazine. Phil is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Diane Dietz; along with two children; Karen Gilbert and her husband Gary Gilbert, and his son Andrew Dietz and his wife Janice; four grandchildren, Jaclyn and Reed Gilbert and Samantha and Jessie Dietz. A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 28, 2014 at 2PM at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Highway Northwest, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 with Rabbi Peter Berg of The Temple officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway Southeast #1, Marietta, GA 30067.

I enjoyed many phone conversations with Phil over the years and appreciated his old-fashioned but tried-and-true ways. It's sad to think he won't be calling me anymore. He was truly committed to Art Papers and the arts in general. Kelly O'Donnell, Weston Art Gallery/Aronoff Center for the Arts

A “broken heart” is the only way to describe the way I feel about the loss of my dear and wonderful
Brother in-law. His marvelous artwork and sense of humor were surpassed only by his humility
And diffidence regarding his amazing talent. It's ironic, however that Phil was the youngest of five
Siblings and the first to suffer a heart attack but the LAST to go. This because of his fabulous wife, Diane
Who nurtured him with love, pure devotion and positivity throughout their fifty-seven years of marriage.

Phil and brother Joe were brought up as twins being eleven months apart in age. They looked alike and
Dressed alike and their symbiotic relationship, deep understanding and love for one another always
remained. Now they're back together again.

Phil will be sorely missed as was brother Joe.
