Donald Keuth Obituary

Keuth, Donald P. Jr.
69, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on January 26, 2017 after losing his battle with cancer. Don was born in Evanston, IL on January 6, 1948. He graduated from Loyola Academy in Chicago and continued on to receive his Bachelors of Engineering at Marquette University. Don and his wife Jacqueline have been together for over 46 years. He is survived by Jacqueline, their three daughters, Katherine, Jennifer and Allison, his son-in-laws Matthew, Erik and Stephen, his grandchildren Mason (6), Owen(4), Adelynn (2), Eleanor (2), Amelia (2) and Audrey (1), his sister Julie and brothers James, John and Patrick and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Don is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Jeanne Keuth. Don started his career as a civil engineer at HNTB where he worked for over 20 years. He then was given the opportunity to pursue his passion at Phoenix Community Alliance, a downtown advocacy and economic development group. His last position was as president of the Discovery Triangle Development Corp. Don was instrumental in much of the revitalization of downtown Phoenix, a mentor to many and an advocate for countless charities in Phoenix. Don was the loudest person in the room when it came to getting a job done but the quietest person when it came to claiming recognition. Don is known as kind and giving man, one who always had a good story to tell and a connection that could help you out. He made an amazing chocolate chip cookie and his grandchildren will remember helping Papa in the kitchen. In lieu of flowers, Don would appreciate memorial donations to your favorite charity in Phoenix, or to the American Cancer Society. A Visitation will be held from 4-8pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85009. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3550 E. Know Road, Ahwatukee, Arizona 85044. There will be a Celebration of Life following the funeral. For more details please see his CaringBridge Site.

Don was a great leader. I met him 20 years ago, when first becoming involved with downtown preservation & revitalization. I was intimidated by this bear-of-a-man who knew every which, every way, every thing, every one and every how of downtown! He was slow to reveal himself, but when he did, it was at 100% and any feelings of intimidation evaporated. Don led the way for the next generation to fall in love with their city and take stewardship for its future. A grand legacy indeed. Deepest sympathy to your family.

I will remember Don as an exceptionally kind hearted, intelligent and committed person. He always made time for others. He always did what he said he would do. He was a tireless resource for me, never hinting that I could be wasting his time. A true role model and valued associate.
I will miss his smiling face very much.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of the wonderful Don Keuth. It was my pleasure and privilege to know him for over a dozen years, through our firm's work with the Phoenix IDA. Don always had a welcoming smile and a warm word, and we discussed often our ties to Chicago, Loyola, and Jesuit education. My condolences to his family and friends, and to his beloved City of Phoenix. Requiescat in pace.

Don and I went to Loyola Academy together. When I think back, I always picture Don with a smile on his face. I remember him as happy and always up-beat. I am sure that through the years he has been a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. May I extend my thoughts and prayers to his family, and may he rest in peace.

We will miss our friend, Don Keuth.
Whether you wanted to know something about Phoenix, in Phoenix, the history of Phoenix or plans for the future, Mr. Don Keuth was always there to lend a hand, offer a kind word, and when necessary, tell you exactly like it was. Don was one of the few people who bridged the gap between the days when Phoenix was a mid-sized city looking to find its heading to the vibrant, diverse gateway to the Southwest we are today.

From expansion of Civic Plaza to its transformation to Phoenix Convention Center, to identifying dedicated funding sources for parks and preserves, launching our light rail system, to the vision of the Arizona State University Downtown Campus, the University of Arizona Medical Center-Downtown Phoenix, to TGEN and the biomedical campus, to the Discovery Triangle, Don was there for it all to serve as a civic and community compass.

He not only volunteered to take a seat at the table, but took the seat at the head of the table. We say farewell to Don today, but will always remember his spirit and passion for the city he loved and made better.

So sorry to hear of Don's passing. I'm praying for Jackie and his family, that they may find comfort and joy in the memories of the 46 years that they had together. Looking through the pictures it looks like he was surrounded by a big, loving family. I'm an old fraternity brother from Triangle at Marquette.

So sorry to hear that Don has passed. Don and I were Triangle Fraternity brothers, same pledge class at Marquette in the late 60's. We were coworkers as co-op students with HNTB. We had lunch quite often to discuss City politics when I worked for the City of Phoenix. My deepest condolences to his family.

We are saddened by the loss of a husband and father who was so loved. I remember having some good conversations with Donald (and learning a bit about good wine and Phoenix history!)He was a larger-than-life kind of guy;and the world was enriched by his time here.
May his family find peace in warm memories and through his wonderful legacy. Love from Jaye & Mackenzie Brennan
