C. Soderquist Obituary

Soderquist, C. William (Bill)
Passed away peacefully at his home on
December 9, 2012 at age 89. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, friend to many, and a dedicated and long-time servant to Scottsdale. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1923, and lived most of his early life in LaPorte, Indiana. He attended Indiana University and served in the 44th Infantry Division in World War II. He moved to Scottsdale in 1959, and co-owned and maintained a successful insurance agency for 25 years. He was a member of the Scottsdale Charros since 1965 and served as a Director of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce and a President of the Scottsdale Boys Club. He served as a City Councilman from 1986 to 1994. After retiring from the City Council, he was actively involved in the development of the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Christine (Tina), his children Randall (partner Deborah), Todd (partner Jodie) and Julia Hugh (husband David), step-children Charles O'Connor (wife Andrea), Brian O'Connor, and Michael O'Connor, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jill Soderquist Warren. Contributions in lieu of flowers should be sent to the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Club, the Scottsdale Charros Foundation, the Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society, or the Hospice of the Valley. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled soon.

When we moved into Bill's neighborhood years ago, we were welcomed with open arms by Bill and Tina. He was a warm and friendly, intelligent, genuine nice guy. We all lost a great shining light when he passed. Our condolences to Tina and the rest of Bill's family. May your journey of grief be lessened, knowing it was time for him to go.
