James Cassidy Obituary

Cassidy, James F. Jr.
Died peacefully after a courageous battle against cancer at his home on September 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born November 14, 1931 in Bronx, New York to James and Mae Cassidy. He was educated by the Christian Brothers and graduated from Manhattan College in 1953, and in 1961 graduated from New York Law School. On December 26, he married the love of his life, Loretta Slavin and was to celebrate their 60th anniversary this year. Jim served with honor and distinction in the United States Marine Corps in Korea, the New York City Police department, and as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 25 years in Indiaopolis, IN, Kansas City, MO, and Phoenix, AZ. After retirement, Jim was a lifelong member of the society of former special agents of the FBI. Jim was an outspoken witness to and defender of his Catholic faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus order and his local Knights of Columbus council established an award in his name to members of the order who have been most courageous in expressing of their Faith known as the Jim Cassidy Catholic Man of the Year Award. James is preceeded in death by his two sons James Cassidy, III and Luke Cassidy. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; son, Stephen Cassidy; daughters, Theresa Lester, Maryann Westhues, Eileen Cassidy; 12 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Visitation and Rosary will be on Friday, September 20th from 6 pm to 9 pm at Best Funeral Services, 501 East Dunlap Avenue, Phoenix. Funeral will be on Saturday, September 21st at 1 pm at St. Paul Catholic Church, 330 West Coral Gables Drive, Phoenix.

Jim was so special. I miss him to this day, especially his sense of humor. He cared about our faith, our country, and of course our Marine Corps. He shared special memories with me sometimes after morning Mass. I feel privileged to have known him.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed.
