Daryl Raetz Obituary
Raetz was standing in the road processing a suspected DUI driver with two to three other officers when he was struck by an SUV that was going north on 51st Avenue, Thompson said. The SUV driver fled, turning left on Thomas Road.
Raetz was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. He was 29 and had a wife and child. He was also a veteran of the Iraq War.

2 months ago I received a phone call early in the morning that told me God had blessed you with a pair of wings and a place in heaven. I will never forget how incredible you were to my family and I. You are someone I will remember forever despite only seeing you a few times. Those few times were a blessing that will be cherished eternally. Its the worst call imaginable when we receive the calls and be the first to know of the horrible, devastating loss we all just had. Its very touching to see other Law Enforcement agencies from all over leaving their condolences- it shows that the loss hits everyone. I didn't know Officer Raetz personally but am so thankful and humbled for his service in the military. We are blessed to have an Officer protect us as he did. I thank you Officer Raetz. May the family find peace with all of the support from the Community and how much we respected Officer Raetz. God Bless you.

Officer Raetz will be remembered not only by the City of Phoenix but also as a fellow Veteran serving his country as a warrior serving in harms way across the water. To come back and serve the community is a double. Selfless service without regard to personal safety is a virtue. Officer Raetz did such a selfless service.
