Earl Trafton Obituary

Trafton, Earl
Earl Jotham Trafton, passed away on March 24, 2011 after a short illness. He was born Feb 17, 1920 in Alfred Maine, to Rufus and Hazel (Allen) Trafton, the oldest of 4 children. After serving his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, he came home to marry his soulmate, Carol Young in 1945. They moved to his hometown of Richmondville NY and raised their family of 3 children, Lawrence, Candace & Wendy. He dedicated his life to his family and community, serving as a volunteer fireman, with 13 of those 20+ years holding the office of Fire Chief. He was named Schoharie County's first Fireman of the Year and was active in many fire service activities throughout upstate NY. Later on, along with his wife, Carol, and several other community leaders, he was instrumental in founding the first all volunteer ambulance squad in their hometown, again serving as captain and EMT of the squad. After retirement from the NYS Dept of Transportation, he moved to AZ with his wife, to be closer to his children. He is predeceased by his mother & father, wife Carol and 3 siblings. He is survived by his son Lawrence (Elsie) Trafton, daughers Candace Trafton & Wendy (Roger) Slater, 4 grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Jotham and Benjamin, 6 great-grandchildren and his 4 "fur-grandchildren", whom he loved & adored in his later years. Funeral services will be held in Richmondville NY at a later date. Donations to Hospice of the Valley. This family served by Advantage Maryvale Mortuary.
