James Brecher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 3 to Feb. 7, 2010.
Brecher, James Gregory
James Gregory Brecher died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 30th, 2010. Greg was born July 28, 1955 in Peoria, Illinois to Martha Arnold of Cave Creek, AZ and Lt. Col. James Brecher, Las Vegas, NV. He graduated from Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix, AZ and West Point Military Academy. After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to Phoenix in 1981 to raise his family and pursue a career in mechanical engineering. His design and oversight were integral to many valley commercial buildings and complexes such as Kierland. While he was an avid bicyclist and sports enthusiast, the center of his life was always his family, including his wife Becky and children Ghislaine, James Matthew, Benjamin and Callie. His friends and family can never replace his fierce independence, ever quick intellect, energy, compassion and hilarious story telling. He is survived by his wife, Becky, children Gigi, Matt, Ben and Callie, son-in-law, Aaron, mother, Martha Arnold, father and step mother, Jim and Miko Brecher, grandmother, Murlea Roberts, sister and brother in law, Alisa and Steve Oujiri, and sister, Tara. Greg was intered at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Friday, February 5, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Greg, you were a man's man. A left hand jab that would have taken down Goliath and an intensity that made Hiroshima look like a cap pistol. We always thought you would be the last man standing of our group of 12 H4-Hog brothers. Our hearts are broken and we grieve for our loss (we miss you!) but a piece of you will remain with each of us...we are connected at the soul-level. When we gather again in the future - now the 11 of us - we will raise a glass in your honor and remember a man who inspired us all.

Greg, you knew you had many good friends, but even so, you must have been humbled and amazed at the number of people who came to honor you life and support Becky and the kids, from near and far. Thanks my friend for the great adventures and comraderie we shared. As you would have wished, we will carry on, play hard, laugh often and relish every day.

Greg was a classmate and fellow H-4 Hog. From Plebe year to Cow (junior) year, we shared a lot of time and a lot of laughs together.

You could always count on Greg when you needed a hand, and that great big smile of his could light up a room.

We'll miss you buddy,

Mike O'Bannon, USMA 77 - Go Hogs!!

I did not know Greg well, as I was in First Regiment, but I remember what a fierce competitor he was. Heavy-handed in the ring, he epitomized a man's man in every aspect of life. May God bless his family and give them the strength and peace he lived with on earth and carried to the other side.

Greg was a West Point classmate and I would see him from time to time going to and coming from class. He was always upbeat and was a legend as far as sports such as boxing were concerned. It surprises none of us that Greg was a success in the civilian world and valued his family. Our thoughts go out to Becky and his family and know that this sudden loss can never be explained or understood.

I am a friend of Alisa and Steve and heard the news when she did. I did not know James, but the sudden passing of any loved one is hard to bear. My heart and prayers are with the family in this time. Please accept my condolences.
