Jarman, Eugene "Bob" Robert
With his family surrounding him, Eugene Robert Jarman (Bob) died late Wednesday morning, June 20, 2012 at his home in Gilbert, Maricopa County, Arizona. He was 88 years old. A native Arizonan, Bob was born in Phoenix on February 11, 1924, where he was reared, to the late William Charles and Ida (Taylor) Jarman. Coming from "the greatest generation of Americans," Bob was a proud WWII United States Army veteran. He saw the horror of war yet, also saw the necessity of it, as he helped free and liberate many thousands who were held in concentration prison camps. Following his honorable release, he appreciated life all the more and focused the rest of his life on serving others. On May 8, 1946 Bob's life forever changed when he married his sweetheart, Ruby Louise Crouse (daughter of Willard Louis and Ruby Ruth (Zufelt) Crouse) in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bob had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He and Louise spent many summers in Lakeside, Arizona and had done so since the 1960's. They loved the cooler temperatures and the breathtaking scenery of the tall pines. Bob was owner of Jarman Auto Rebuilders and Jarman's Towing. He was an auto body and fender repairman throughout most of his life. Together with his wife, Louise, they owned two businesses that she ran; Auction City in South Phoenix and Granny's Hobbies and Supplies in East Phoenix. Bob loved to tinker around his auto body shop and work with his hands. Being a true craftsman in his work, he was meticulous with every detail. He even built the FIRST 4-door Ford Pick-up in 1956! This native Phoenician was born to serve others and did so in the scouting program. Since 1947, just 2 years following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Bob has volunteered as an adult scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America. Together, he and Louise were able to help mold the lives of hundreds of boy scouts as they grew to be responsible and productive young men. His scouts affectionately called him "Brother J." He has been a registered scout leader for 65 years. In most recent years, Bob was an active member of the Palo Verde Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gilbert Arizona Stake. His ward family will miss his mild manner, unforgettable sense of humor and infectious smile but, all are so grateful to have been a part of his life. He is survived by his 5 children: William Douglas Jarman (Marsha Crandell), Linda Louise Meeker (Frederick Rodney), Robie Jeane Smith (Roger Lloyd), Mary Lou Bowman (Rick), Robert Keith Jarman (Shelby Lea Livingston); 25 grandchildren and 74 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Jarman on June 21, 2008; his sister, Betty Cope; 2 brothers: Richard Reed Jarman and Glenn Jarman. The public visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Palo Verde Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 234 N. Greenfield Road in Gilbert, Arizona. The funeral service will begin promptly at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 also at the Palo Verde Ward Chapel of The Church with an additional viewing beginning one hour prior to the service. The concluding service with military honors will follow at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street in Mesa, Arizona. The Jarman family would like to thank Desert Oasis Hospice for the tender and loving care they gave Bob and his family during his final months in this life.
