Mitchell Kasovac Obituary
76, of Phoenix, AZ passed April 5, 2014. He is survived by wife of 51 years, Martha Ann (Tonti) Kasovac, 5 children, 9 grandchildren, sister Peggy Meyendorff. He attended Wayne State Univ. and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He married in Detroit, MI 1962, settled in Phoenix where he practiced Family Medicine for 17 years and became DME at Phoenix General Hospital. Dr. Kasovac held several administrative positions including President of the American Osteopathic Association from 1990-1991. He concluded his career as Dean at Western Univ. of Health Sciences/COMP whereupon he retired back to Phx. He then acquired the position of Dir. Osteo. Grad. Med. Ed. Dev. for the A.O.A.; assisted with accreditation at A.T. Still University (ATSU), then professor of Family Med. His skills and knowledge of the Osteo. profession were highly valued and respected nationally. Dr. Kasovac accomplished his goals practicing medicine, being an educator, including his position as Dean. Many times he stated how fortunate he was to have acquired everything he hoped to do in his professional life. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 PM Sun., April 13, 2014 at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 4436 E. McKinley St., Phx, AZ 85008 with Requiem service at 5:00 PM. Funeral will be at 10:00 AM Mon., April 14, 2014 at St. Sava Church, followed by graveside service at Tempe Double Buttes Cemetery, 2505 W. Broadway Rd., Tempe. I have often wondered about Mitch & Marti ❣ It has been many years since we have last seen each other. I found an old Christmas letter from 2012 and reread it with a smile- such beautiful people.
I remember Mitch as a friendly and loving mentor to me when we were on the AOA Board of Trustees together. He taught me much simply by his superlative example of being honest, caring, dedicated to the profession, and kindness to all that he met.
I did not know of his passing until tonight, wondering how I might contact him & reignite our friendship. So sorry to learn of his passing so many years ago. My heart goes out to my fellow Serb and his family. I love them all.

When I was a medical student rotating through Phoenix General Hospital, Dr.Kasovac was a good influence. When my mother's involvement with the ladies guild at my parent's parish in Sun City led to a significant donation to the care of indigent patients in Phoenix, he remembered that years later when we met again in Oklahoma. I will always remember him as a caring and good person!

Dear kasovac Family,I met Mitch at Wayne University in 1955 in a pre-med course and found him to be friendly,engaging,and outgoing.Although our paths deviated significantly and I did not run into him for another 25 yrs.,he remained just as friendly when I renewed our acquaintance on multiple occasions over the past 30 years.We shared not only our D.O. degrees but our ethnicity as well.He was a remarkable representative of our profession as well a servant leader.God bless him and your family.Sincerely,Harvey A.Drapkin,DO

Marti, So many memories of really good times way back when. Those of us who know him, studied with him and did all the other good stuff will treasure those times and such good feelings. What a great leader of the Osteopathic Family!! I will always remember the first time I met Mitchell and his wife Marty in Las Vegas at a convention in the early 70's. He has always been a wonderful physician and leader of both the state of Arizona and the American Osteopathic Association. He will be missed.

He is fondly remembered through my career starting at PGH through sharing our small office together at AT Still.
I consider him a dear friend who I had tremendous respect for. What an icon in the osteopathic profession; admired and respected by so many. He will be missed by me and those whom he touched with his professionalism, guidance, and smile.

Our sincerest condolences to the entire Kasovac family.
Dr. Kasovac delivered our children and provided medical care to three generations of our family with compassion, understanding, and profound skill. He was truly a mainstay in our lives and an integral part of our family history. We were devastated when he gave up his office practice in 1979, but understood his desire to further develop and enhance his chosen profession.
In later years he asked us to just call him Mitch, but with respect and true admiration he was always Dr. Kasovac, or as our three-year-old daughter mispronounced it years ago, Doctor Kasa-rax-us.
He is so fondly remembered and we share in your grief at this very sad time. He will be greatly missed.

How sad it was to learn of Mitch's death. He fought an uphill battle and I believe he's found peace. I have many fine memories of my times with him and the stories about his activities with my brother are legendary. My sympathy and prayers for your major loss. From what I know of your lovely family you have a great deal of support. I'll be thinking of you and yours tomorrow as life's process continues. I enjoyed talking with you and him so much over the last several months. God speed.

Dear Marti and family,
It is with profound sadness that I have learned of Mitch's passing. My family and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to you all. It is without denial that Mitch nobly served the medical profession, both through his clinical years in practice as well as his high level administrative positions held over the years. Concomitantly, he maintained his love and devotion to his family, and unselfishly served his church community. He was truly a wonderful and admirable person. While the years and miles have intervened in our lives, my memories of Mitch's genuine warmth,generosity, and friendship will always remain with me. Im am devastated that I will be out of town (at another memorial) and will not be able to pay my respects. You know that I love you both and that Mitch was very dear to me as a fellow employee at PGH, friend and a mentor. I have pictures from PGH that I just found that I will bring to you when I get back. He certainly fought the good fight and he will be sorely missed.
