Gloria Boggs Obituary

Gloria Elsie Boggs 1927 - 2010 Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 4-8 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, January 3, at 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park. On Thursday, December 23, 2010, Gloria Elsie Boggs left her earthly pain to be in the arms of God alongside her beloved husband. She was born to Ernest and Ema Dietzmann on December 5, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from George W. Breckenridge High School in 1945, she met a dashing young soldier by the name of NR "Bud" Boggs. They married and moved to Bud's home in Long Beach, California, where Bud worked for Superior Oil. The young couple moved to Bakersfield in 1946 and were long time residents of Shafter/Rio Bravo. Gloria and Bud enjoyed square dancing, Gloria sewing her square dancing dresses with layer upon layer of petticoats. Avid equestrians, Bud was a Bakersfield Ranger and Gloria a Bakersfield Rangerette. Gloria was a stay at home mom until their children entered high school, at which time she began working at Community National Bank as Operations Officer for Shafter, Bakersfield, and Buttonwillow. Following Bud's death in 1981, Gloria began bowling in several leagues. Gloria was preceded in death by her siblings, Ernie Dietzmann and Maxine Schott. She is survived by her son, Randolph "Randy" Boggs (Elizabeth); daughter, Barbara Dial (John); grandchildren, Alyxis Hedrick, Brandon Boggs, Ava Snyder (and partner Juanita Reyes); great-granddaughter, Jordan Reyes-Snyder; and many nieces and nephews in Texas and northern California. In addition to her children, Gloria's loving daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Liz" Boggs was a faithful, special friend and caregiver, helping to make Gloria's final years enjoyable. www.bakersfield.com/obits
