Romero "Ruben" Benavidez January 21, 1948 - Dec. 4, 2010 Born January 21, 1948 in Robstown, Texas, Ruben served in the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1968 - 1969 with the 101st Airborne Infantry. Ruben is survived by his wife of 35 years Rosa Benavidez; son and daughter, Ruben Jr. and Ericka Benavidez; and granddaughter, Chloe Benavidez. He had a large family of six brothers and four sisters. He was a great husband, father, uncle, brother, and brother-in-law to all his family. He will be remembered most for his sense or humor and generosity. We love and will miss you Daddy. Visitation is Wednesday, Dec. 8th, from 4-8 p.m., with Rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis Of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Rosa, I only learned yesterday from Joel, that Rueben was gone. I am so sorry. We used to joke and go on about our husband's and how much we loved them while you were doing my nails. I know you had a wonderful husband and he was a special Dad to his children. He is with the Angels now. God Bless and keep you and the kids. You are in my prayers. Love you.

Although I never met Ruben. I felt like I knew him by all the great things Ericka would say about her dad. He was and will always be her "HERO". So sorry for your Loss Ericka, Rosa, and Ruben Jr. Of all the years I have known Ericka, she always only had the sweetest things to say about her daddy. I always thought Ericka's dad being apart of the Army 101st was pretty rad! She was super proud of him, I could tell they had an amazing relationship. Just know you will see him again one day.
