Vivian June Thompson

Vivian June Thompson 1919 - 2010 Vivian June Thompson, former long-time resident of Walnut Creek, born October 28, 1919 in Scranton, PA, and recently residing in Bakersfield, died September 20, 2010. She was 90. Her life exhibited love of service to country, family, nursing, and volunteer organizations. After graduation from nursing school, June joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, where she met a wounded Marine, Carl "Tommy" Thompson. They were married September 9, 1945. They began their family in Richmond and later moved to Alamo. June retired as the head nurse of the Pediatric Clinic at Kaiser Walnut Creek in 1984. She was a tireless knitter, lover of music, ballroom dance, volunteering and traveling. She was an avid runner until the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Thompson and her parents, David Eder and Rhena (Custer) Eder. She is survived by her brother, Ken Eder (Pat); her children, Carl Thompson (Pam) of Port Townsend, WA, David Thompson (Charmaine) of Vacaville, Terry Hanscom (Paul) of Bakersfield, and Ron Thompson of Lafayette; grandchildren, Kenneth Hanscom (Ashley), Kimberly Brown (Dominic), Evan Thompson, Samantha Thompson, and Angela Thompson; great-grandchildren, Domenic and Davin Bourne-Thompson, Lincoln and Madison Brown. All who knew her are invited to a gathering of remembrance and celebration of her life, Saturday, October 16, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary Memorial Park Pavilion in Bakersfield. Interment will be at the Bakersfield National Veterans Cemetery. The family suggests donations in her memory to the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, 5500 Olive Dr., Bldg.
