Joyce, as she was known by all that knew her and loved her, was super sharp witted and extreme cook. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Burwin "Blackie" Brown; sister, Flora Hughes (Dick); daughter, Denise Hatfield; grandchildren, Tara (Sean), Christopher (Diana), Jeffrey (Shelly); 9 great grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Amy, Michelle, Cody, Amanda, Jonah, Felicity, and Skyler. Special thanks to Hoffmann Hospice, especially Kristina and Kristy. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home on Saturday, October 9th, at 12:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Joyce will always hold a very fond place in my memory and I very much enjoyed and valued her friendship. I respected her equal treatment of all she loved. I smile now remembering challenging her to the battle of witt which I have to admit, I lost at most of my attempts. She is missed and my thoughts are with her family.

Your humor, your kindness, your thoughtfulness and the wonderful memories just sitting and drinking coffee with you and Blackie... I will miss them all. You brought stability to our family and I respected you so very much. You are loved. You are missed. My thoughts and prayers to all who wait to join you.
