Darien Wankum Obituary
His early childhood was uneventful living with parents on the Garth Cobbs Ranch and attending grade schools in Earlimart, St. Mary's and Delano. He attended Delano High but dropped out his Junior year. He enjoyed 4-H and FFA projects; raising showing and selling livestock and 4-H summer camp. Summers were spent at the beach with Alicia and her friend Mary Morgan. He also enjoyed water skiing with aunt & uncle Barney and Clara Wade.
After high school, Darien worked for his uncle John in Arkansas, attended welding school in Fresno, then worked on the family farm in Delano and for area growers as a tractor driver, picker operator, mechanic and welder.
Numerous accidents and life choices contributed to his early demise; forced off the road on his motorcycle, caused head injuries requiring over 100 stitches; a flash fuel explosion put him and Pam in the Fresno Burn Center for several weeks. He was a cigarette smoker for over 35 years and also suffered from migraines and depression for years.
A memorial luncheon for Darien is planned for September 14th at Kong's (2200 Girard St.) in Delano at 12 noon. Call Dave or Alicia at 661-725-3327 for more information.

So sorry to hear of Darien death. He was one my outstanding 4-Her's in his younger days. The family sends their sympathy and condolences to his parents,Alicia and Dave, and the rest of the family.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of Darien. I have only recently heard about him and how much he was loved. ''May the Lord bless and keep you, may He cause his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord turn His face toward you and bring you peace.'' Numbers 6:24-26. My Condolences to his family. I remember Darien from High School.(class or 1981) Alwaying smiling and funny, I'd see him coming down the hall or quad it was hard to miss him so tall, and as I said a smile not to forget. I haven't seen him since high school. Again my Condolences to his family and friends.
