In Loving Memory of Dorothy Dawson Freeman 1924 - 2010 Long time Bakersfield resident, Dorothy Dawson Freeman, passed away Saturday, October 2nd, from lung cancer at the age of 86. Born in Pittsburgh in 1924, Dottie trained and worked as a nurse before moving west to Bakersfield where she married Joel W. Freeman, raised three children, and continued her nursing career. She later obtained a teaching degree from Fresno St. and taught for more than two decades in the Bakersfield City School District. During her retirement, she devoted much of her time to volunteering at local hospitals in both Bakersfield and the Antelope Valley. She had an abiding love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ukrainian food, and crafts. Dottie has 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and she is survived by her son, Randy Freeman, daughter-in-law, Kathy Freeman; daughter, Joelyn Zertuche; son-in-law, Zane Zertuche; and daughter-in-law, Patt Freeman. She is loved and will be greatly missed. www.bakersfield.com/obits
