Edna Willamena Montgomery 1911 - 2012 Edna Montgomery was born October 31, 1911, in Los Angeles, California to William and Henrietta Petzolt. She passed away on Saturday, September 1,2012 at the age of 100. At the age of 8, the family moved to Parlier, California where her father farmed peaches and grapes. As a youngster, she was known as the "top-notch" peach cutter, on the farm. At the age of 12, her family moved to Bakersfield. She attended Washington Grammar School and graduated from Kern County Union High School, now Bakersfield High School, in June of 1929. Her first job was the Californian Theater and in December 1930, the Fox Theater opened and Meme was one of the first usherettes. Edna met and married Jack Moore and they had 2 daughters, Carol and Dianne. In 1943 she married Lorin Montgomery. This union produced 2 more daughters, Linda and Bette. Edna and Lorin were married 60 years until his passing in 2004. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, her husband Lorin and daughter Dianne and her husband, Johnny Callison. She is survived by her three daughters, Carol (Tom) Saunders, Linda Smalley and Bette (Jim) Bryan. "Meme" is survived by 5 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 19 great grandchildren and 2 (soon to be 3) great great grandchildren. She was a stay-at-home Mom and was active as a Campfire Girls' leader, active with Job's Daughters and numerous other Masonic Organizations. The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to all of the staff at Mercy/Southwest Hospital for their kind care, assistance and compassion to Meme during her last days. A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 5pm-8pm and Monday, September 10, 2012 from 10am-11am at Hillcrest Mortuary. Chapel services will be Monday, September 10, 2012 at 11:00am.
