Jeanetta West Obituary

Jeanetta Belle West February 3, 1923 - October 2, 2010 Jeanetta West, or Granna as she was known by so many, was born on February 3, 1923 in Denver, Arkansas to Arliss and Nola Jones. She died at home at the age of 87 having lived a life of service and love to others. She was born the seventh child of 13 brothers and sisters and began to work at the age of eleven. At eighteen years old she met and married Aaron Willard West who later joined the Navy and served with honor during WWII. She was a true "Rosie the Riveter" working in aircraft assembly plants in Oklahoma and California. In fact, she worked on the first military "jet" aircraft for the United States. She liked to say that she built the aircraft while her husband maintained them in the South Pacific Theater. After the war, she worked as a mother, a pastor for the Church of God of Prophecy, and as a wife of a pastor (Aaron). She and her husband retired from active ministry in 1995 and yet she continued to minister to others and to confess her love for Jesus Christ right up to the time of her passing. As one of her grandchildren put it, "Many people have read and know I Corinthians 13 (The Love Chapter); Granna lived it every day." She is survived by her husband, Aaron Willard West and her children: Waymond Neal West and his wife Teri, and Janice Elaine Smith and her husband Randall. She leaves behind three brothers: Arliss Jones, Murphy Jones, and Dean Jones. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nathaniel Earl West and his wife Adriana, and Jeanetta Alice Smith. There are also two great grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Sofia by Nathaniel and Adriana. She will be also greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews, family, and friends. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, October 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy; 2400 Morning Dr. There will also be a short graveside service at the Arvin National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to the Helping Hands Ministry of the Church of God of Prophecy. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Your exemplary Christian example is forever etched in our hearts and minds and shall never be forgotten. As my beloved Grace and I watched the clock, our thoughts and prayers were with your dear husband, 'Papa West,' Wayman and Teri, Janice and Randall and the family. We will keep our hands on the Gospel plow and our eyes on the eastern sky until we are reunited on that Great Day.

Gods' love and ours,

Your Pale-face son and Gracie girl
