Carolyn and Rich,
We have not met, but your dad was a first cousin of my dad. My dad often spoke of Joe Eglin. My Dad was Joe Runkel. My grandmother and your grandmother were sisters. I read the obituary in the Springfield, Illinois paper and then looked up this one via internet.
Please accept my sympathy and prayers at this time of loss. From the notes on this site and the acutal obituary here, I can see a strong resemblance in work ethic of your dad and mine. My dad died at 89 in 1995, but worked until he was 85.

It was such an experience to work for Mr. Eglin. He was so funny and had a sense of humor. He was so amazing at his age to still get up and go to work everyday. At his age when I still worked at the lab. He reminded me a lot of my own dad in many way and their birthdays were just a few days apart. I am so glad I had the honor of meeting such a wonderful man. He was awesome and always will be in my eyes. God Bless You Mr.Eglin

Dear Carolyn and Richard,
I truly treasured my conversations with your Father. Whether talking about the lab, Pavoratti, Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" and your Mother or just "these kids today", I enjoyed every second. He was so multi-faceted and had a sharp sense of humor. Not only did he have amazing business acumen and an incredible work ethic, but he was also a lover of the arts, a true renaissance man. I was awestruck and honored to be just a small part of that. I saved every note he wrote me, that's how much he meant to me. He was dear and a great presence. He will be missed greatly. All my love to you and your family,
Michelle

Joe was the most wonderful person to work for. He was so very passionate about his work and was a pleasure to know as a person.
We owe so much of what we have now to him and to Bea.
