Joyce Ann Statler Obituary
On March 1, 2014 the saints in Heaven rejoiced and the gates of Heaven opened wide as Joyce Ann Statler was welcomed into the waiting arms if her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and the saints that have gone before her. She was surrounded by her family at home as she peacefully passed on to receive the Heavenly rewards she so richly deserves.
Joyce was born November 6, 1931 to Lottle Mae and James Monroe Buckley in Tennessee. Shortly thereafter they moved to Chicago. She and her family were very active in the Second Baptist Church of Chicago and it was there that she met her one and only true love, G.R. Statler. They were soon married, quickly started their family and moved to Bakersfield where Joyce was an excellent wife, daughter, homemaker and mother of 4 children.
She started her professional career with Montgomery Ward in 1966 and then moved in to a long rewarding career at Ticor/Chicago Title as a title engineer from which she retired to become a full time "Gramma Jo" to everyone. She served the Lord in many different ways at North Heights Baptist Church where they were long time members and faithful servants for over 50 years. It was generally understood that most anytime the doors were open that, although usually "fashionably" late, Joyce and G.R. were always there!
In the last years of G.R.'s life she was an angel of mercy and a loving and tireless caregiver as she walked him through his battle with Alzheimer's. Last year Joyce began her own journey with breast cancer which she battled courageously and faithfully til the end. Her motto was "I gave my heart to Jesus as a young girl and trusted him all of my life and will continue to trust Him through this, whatever the outcome."
Joyce was a true "Woman of God" in every sense of the word and exuded the fruits of the spirit (Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control) in everything she did and to EVERYONE she encountered. She did however have a bit of difficulty with the self control when it came to her unique and unmistakable laugh, as well her making and eating homemade ice cream!
We all miss her infectious joy, laughter and smile but look forward to being together again with her and Poppa G.R. in thier mansion in Heaven.......
