Kathryn Thompson Obituary

Kathryn was born in Canton, Illinois. After moving to Calpatria, California, with her mother, she met and married Chester Otis Thompson, with whom she celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary in July, 2005. Kathryn worked in Washington State while Chester was serving in the army during World War II. After the war, they moved to San Francisco, where their daughter, Phyllis, was born. The young family moved to Bakersfield in 1947, and Kathryn and Chester began and owned the B&T Blind Company on Casa Loma Drive (Ming Avenue) for 40 years. Kathryn is past president of Altrusa International in Bakersfield. She has also been a member of the Bakersfield Chapter of the order of Eastern Star, the First Congregational Church and the International Order of Foresters. She has served on Job's Daughter Council and the Rainbow Board, and was fiscal officer for the Civil Air Patrol. Kathryn had a "Pinch Hitters" license to join Chester as he flew in search and rescue operations in Kern County and surrounding areas in the 1950's, despite her fear of flying. Kathryn had an amazing memory for details and throughout her life, she never shied away from learning new things, taking an Introduction to Computers course when she was 80 years old. She also always had a kind word and an encouraging smile for anyone she came into contact with. She was a lady all the way through. She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester, and brothers, Laurel and Gale. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis, her daughter's husband, Greg, and grandchildren Kevin, Jana, and Mark. An internment will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, followed by a 2 p.m. memorial celebration of Kathryn's life in the west chapel of First Congregational Church at 5 Real Road. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Los Angeles. Kathryn Thompson Feb. 12, 1917 - Apr. 27, 2008

Phyllis, Greg and all the family

Phyllis we did not know your parents well, but we are dearly grateful to them for bringing such dear friends into our lives. Our hearts and prayers are with you during this difficult time, but we know that your parents are together again as they would want it. You were truly blessed by them both and they are smiling at all of you now.
With our love,
The Brights and Hunts

Phyllis and Family,
What a lovely family she left for us to share her life. We are ever so grateful for the example she left for those she loved; her daughter, Phyllis, who loves the LORD with all her heart, which was expressed in her love for her Mother, faithfully caring for her needs; for her son-in-law, Greg, who likewise loves the LORD in his witness and testimony in ministry; for her Granddaughter, Jana, and her husband Christopher, who also carries the Godly heritage reaching out to generations; and through her dear Grandsons, Kevin and Mark. May this just be the first step for the soon homecoming for all of us with an eternity together around the beautiful throne of GOD.

(Rev. 7:9,10) ""I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the LAMB. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation belongs to our GOD, who sits on the throne, and to the LAMB."

GOD bless all of you in JESUS,
The Rohde's
