Laura Martinez-Flores Obituary

Laura Martinez-Flores Sept. 30, 1978 - Sept. 30, 2010 A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Laura Martinez-Flores was born in Mexico Distrito Federal (Mexico City) on September 30, 1978. She came to the United States in 1990 and was a graduate of Bakersfield High School and CSUB. Laura was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister. She is survived by her husband, Jorge Ramirez; her 2 year-old daughter, Cynthia; her parents, Graciela Flores and Hermelindo Martinez; her brothers, Hector, Rodrigo, Julio; sister- in-law, Mayra, and nephew, Santiago. Also missing her dearly are numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers and students. Graciela and Hermelindo always expected Laura to attend and graduate college. Laura was inspired and encouraged by her teacher, Mrs. Rice, at BHS, and went on to become an extremely dedicated and inspiring teacher herself. At such a young age, she was honored as "Teacher of the Year" in 2010. A very humble person, she never boasted about her accomplishments. Her strength, determination, and belief that all students can succeed were her gifts to all children and to the many teachers who learned from her. Laura was a very special person. She always had a smile for everyone and refused to focus on any negative influences around her. She respected everyone and truly demonstrated that she cared. Laura's greatest joy and strength came from her family. Her baby was perhaps her greatest gift of all and she cherished every moment with her. Laura will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We will never forget her. The family would like to extend warm thanks to the doctors and nurses at KMC that cared for Laura during her stay. Friends have set up the Laura Martinez Memorial Fund for her daughter. Donations can be made at any Kern Schools Federal Credit Union. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Jorge and extended family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of Laura. There is really nothing to be said except this is a tragedy only hope can spring from. My hope is you find some joy and peace in caring for her daughter and telling her of her mother.
