Laurence Casselman Obituary

Laurence Casselman III 1918 - 2010 Laurence Casselman III of Bakersfield, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at Pacifica Senior Living, at the age of 92. Mr. Casselman was born on August 11, 1918, in Bismarck, North Dakota and was the son of Laurence and Alice Casselman. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Casselman. Laurence was a WWII Veteran who served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater and was involved in the New Guinea, Luzon, and Papuan campaigns. He met the love of his life, Nancy Soudakoff, who was a P.O.W. in the Philippines. After the P.O.W. camp was liberated, he brought her back to the U.S. where they were married for 60 years. Laurence retired after 25 years from the Internal Revenue Service as an investigator and then from the City of Bakersfield with 5 years of service. He is survived by son and daughter- in-law, Larry and Kristi Casselman of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rob Akenhead of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter, Cindy Casselman of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Jeff Frapwell of Bakersfield; 7 grandchildren: Michael and Matthew Akenhead, Karisa Casselman, Lindsey Shaw, and Eric, Ryan and Jordan Frapwell. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Irma Langstrom and all the staff from Pacifica Senior Living and the staff of Hoffmann Hospice for their caring and support. There will be a graveside funeral service held on Friday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane. www.bakersfield.com/obits
