Robert Darneal Obituary

Robert "Bob" Darneal 1936 - 2010 Robert "Bob" Darneal of Oceano, CA, was born in Orange County, and passed away Friday, September 3, 2010. His family lived a short time in Arizona and Bakersfield and eventually settled in the Cuyama Valley where Bob graduated from Maricopa High School. After serving our Country in the U.S. Marine Corps, he returned to Bakersfield where he met the love of his life, Patsy Henley. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last February with over 100 family and friends in attendance. Bob was a plumber and pipefitter for many years and was required to travel. His family was glad when he bought Greenacres Liquors and was able to stay in town. He became active in the children's sports, sponsored and coached baseball teams, and made home-cooked meals. He loved to cook and was famous for the tri-tips, ribs, and tacos he frequently served to countless friends and hungry athletes. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Bakersfield and became a Shriner, Kopper, and Jester. After selling the liquor store, he went to work for Pneumatic Control Inc. and sold valves and instrumentation. After his daughter, Darcey, married and moved away, and his son, Rob joined the U.S. Navy, Bob and Patsy moved to Oceano in 1995 where he joined the Elk's Club. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Patsy; son, Rob Darneal of Bakersfield; daughter, Darcey (Eric) Earhart, and granddaughter, Cassidy Linn of Redondo Beach; sisters, Jerri (Brown) Higginbotham and Sandy (Norman) Estes, all of Bakersfield; brother, Doug (Tomoko) Darneal of Japan; sisters- in-law, Sue Hodge and Lou Surginer of Oceano and Jerrie (Ken) Dahlen of Atascadero; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Oceano Elks Club, 410 Park Dr., in Oceano. The Darneals express their thanks to all friends and family for the wonderful food, cards, calls, and sincere expressions of sympathy received. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Los Angeles, care of Al Malaikah Temple, 665 West Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90007. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Patsy & family,

My condolences to all. I still remember Bob's secret recipe for tri-tip, which he generously shared with me & which I still use.

My prayers are with you.

With the loss of Bobby, we lost one of the "Good Guys". Always friendly, treated everyone the same, had an infectious laugh and loved jokes. I know Patsy and the family will miss him greatly, just as his friends will.
