Robert Virgil Goff

1922 - 2010

Robert Virgil Goff July 30, 1922 - December 20, 2010 Bob was born in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Harriette Goff. He was raised in Des Moines, IA by an uncle and aunt. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938 then entered the U.S. Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and married Mary Alice Leonard of Colfax, IA in Tacoma, WA. They moved to Bakersfield soon thereafter. Bob was employed by Standard Oil Co. of CA (now Chevron Corp.) for 43 years until his retirement in 1986. While always maintaining an address in Bakersfield, they lived throughout the west including 16 years in the SF Bay area in the 70's and 80's. Bob was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 43 years. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Thomas of Des Moines, IA; sons, Donald J. Goff (Ellen) of Houston, TX and Thomas E. Goff (Donna) of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Pam Jacobson (Jim) of San Rafael, CA, Debbie Goff of San Francisco, CA, Robert (Joyel) Goff of Bakersfield, and Jennifer Goff of Lakeport, CA; great grandchildren, Katie, Joshua, Tommy, and Jordan; and numerous nephews and nieces. Bob enjoyed the outdoors including golf, fishing, and camping and was active in the Boy Scouts of America as scoutmaster of Troop 8 for many years in the 1960's. He was recognized as an accomplished bridge player. Thanks to the staff of Mexicali downtown for Sunday afternoons. No services.
