Ronnie Huckaby Obituary

Ronnie D. Huckaby 1945 - 2010 On September 18, 2010, Ronnie D. Huckaby went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ron was born on December 23, 1945 to Lon and Juanita Huckaby in Fayetteville, AR. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Arvin, CA. He attended Meridian grammar school and graduated from Arvin High School in 1963. After graduation he married the love of his life Joan Duke. The two of them started their family in Arvin and soon had 3 children. After several years they moved to Bakersfield where he resided until his death. Most of Ron's professional career was in the oil industry. He first started as a draftsman at Standard Oil while attending college. He then moved to Occidental Petroleum in 1969 where he worked as a geologist until he was forced to medically retire. Ron was a devoted Christian, family man and outdoorsman and he exemplified the biblical principle of service by his service to Heritage Bible Church. For many years he led the Boys Brigade program and then continued as Usher for many years. He was faithful and hard working no matter what the job. Ron was a dedicated family man who consistently put the needs of his family above his own. He enjoyed vacations with the entire family and loved watching the sports his children and grandchildren participated in. He tried to never miss an event. As an avid outdoorsman he loved to hunt and fish. He taught his sons how to hunt and fish at an early age and passed his passion for the outdoors to them so they could pass it on to their kids. They enjoyed numerous trips out of state each year to hunt and fly fish. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joan; daughter, Ronda Huckaby; son, Jeff Huckaby (Michelle); son, Robert Huckaby (Marie); four grandchildren, Matthew, Austin, Kaitlynn, and Lauren Huckaby; and devoted sister, Sandy Winters. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Rosedale Bible Church, 16000 Rosedale Hwy. Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary www.bakersfield.com/obits

Aunt Joanie & Family,
I was so sad to hear of Uncle Ronnies passing. Ronnie will always be remembered by me as the uncle with the video camera. He was always taping all the memories of every event. Ronnie was caring, soft spoken and always had a positive out look on life. He will be missed by many and remembered by all.

Dear Joan and Family,
Words will rarely help in times like this, but prayer does and will. Please know that you and your family will be in my prayers. We sometimes take for granted that our love ones will live forever and the real truth is they do. Ronnie is now enjoying the great followship with all the saints that have gone on before us. You and I will be there one day and we will talk about when we grew up on Barbara St.

Joan and family, so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. I enjoyed working with both of you at Oxy years ago. Both of you were great mentors for many who had the pleasure of working with you two. Ron had a great sense of humor, dedicated to his work and so proud of his family. May all our prayers and God's grace give you and your family peace.
