Rosella Pilcher Obituary

Rosella Gladys Pilcher 1914 - 2010 Rosella G. Pilcher of Bakersfield, CA, was born on January 18, 1914 in Avilla, MO and passed away October 6, 2010 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Basil (Tom) Parker Pilcher in 1991. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Archer of Sarcoxie, MO and 3 nieces. Rosie came to California during WWII and worked at Douglas Aircraft riveting airplanes, so we laughingly call her Rosie the Riveter. It was there she met her husband. They moved to Bakersfield in 1948, where Basil worked in the oilfields. With Basil's position in the oil industry, it gave them the opportunity to travel to many countries in the world. Rosie loved to play the piano and sing. She became a musician of many bands in Bakersfield and became a member of the Bakersfield Western Music Hall of Fame. She, C.B. Loper, a long time friend, and several other members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 97 played every Saturday night for many years at the Post home. She and her husband were instrumental in starting Post 97 so Veterans would have a place to meet. It was chartered in 1973 and officially became V.F.W. Post 97 located at 5350 S. Union. Bakersfield, CA. Rosie will be greatly missed by her special friends, Gladys Thoe and Linda Thompson and all of those that knew her at Post 97. Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing on Thursday, October 14, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Ln. Dinner to follow at the Post home. Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary www.bakersfield.com/obits
