Roy Cook Obituary

Roy K. Cook March 28, 1920 - December 22, 2010 Roy was born with his identical twin brother Ray in Myrtle Point, Coos, Oregon to Tike Cook and Amy Belle Stephens Cook. As a young man he worked with his brother Ray as a lumberjack in the Oregon woods. He joined the U.S. Air Corp at the age of 19 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On December 7, 1941 he was on guard duty when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was a survivor that day. Those memories of that day had never faded with time. Every year on the anniversary of December 7th he honored his fellow servicemen and women who did not. In 1944 he met the love his life Barbara Sharp. They were married when they eloped to Arizona where he was stationed. They soon moved to Oregon where they started their family with the birth of their daughter Sharon and then son Roy Patrick. Then another move to Bakersfield, California. Roy was employed by the Standard Oil Company and after 30 years of service he retired. He volunteered his time to community service with the Kern County Libraries and at the Golden Empire Gleaners, Inc. Some of the things he enjoyed were listening to classical music, feeding the birds in his back yard and watching the Three Stooges on TV. Roy loved his country and flag and with a gift of a 25 foot flag pole which he placed in his front yard, he would go out and raise the American flag every morning and bring it down every night. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Tike and Amy Belle Cook; brothers Vivian T., Chester and twin brother, Ray Cook; also by a grandson, Seth Bolen; sister-in-law, Connie and her husband William (Bill) Phillips. Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Barbara Cook; daughter, Sharon Bolen; son, Pat and wife Kathy Cook; granddaughter, Annie Bolen; grandson, Andy Cook; great granddaughter, little Lila Bolen; and great grandson, Darius Bolen. The family would like to thank Optimal Hospice for the compassionate care they gave Roy and the support to his wife Barbara. Thank you Dr. Pangilinan and Rose for all your good care. "And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched...for nothing loved is ever lost - and he was loved so much." (F. Brenneman) Burial, with full military honors at the Bakersfield National Veteran's Cemetery located at 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd. Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara www.bakersfield.com/obits

Roy, you and I were friends at Munsey; beginning in the fourth grade. I know a very long time ago. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my mom a few years ago and although she like your dad lived a long life it's still your parent and they are gone.
BTW..looking at your dad as a young man.............so reminds me of you.

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.
