David Naten Obituary

David G. Naten (Griz) March 9, 1953 - July 11, 2012 David was born and lived his life in California. He worked at San Joaquin Refining, and loved golf, gardening, fishing and going to the ocean and spending time at the shore. Everywhere he went, there was someone he knew, and if not, then he would make a friend. If you ever came to his home for dinner, you never went away hungry, and if you did, it was your own fault. He loved to cook and BBQ - baby back ribs were his specialty. David's grandchildren were the light of his life, and whenever they were around, there was always room on Grampa's /Crappaw's lap and lots of hugs and kisses. David is survived by his wife, Debbi, of 29 years, daughter Cayla Furgason (Justin), his son Robbie Blum (Jen) , grandchildren Luci Blum and Reese Furgason; his mother, Carmen Naten; brother Greg Naten; Sisters - Janice Willis, Margie Baker (Roy), Diane Watts (Bobby), brother-in law Mike James, sister -in-law Anita Wilson (Keith), mother-in-law Frances Hughey and numerous nieces and nephews. David had a long battle with cancer, but now he is at peace. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or your charity of choice. Services will be held at the Marriott downtown (Truxtun) at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 18th, with a wake following at David's home. Casual dress, please; no suits or ties. www.bakersfield.com/obits

I did not personally know David but he has been a father figure to my nieces most of their lives due to their friendship with Cayla and am grateful for the guidance and love that he gave them. I am so sorry for the heartache his family is going through. RIP David.
