Launi Hunt Obituary

Launi Marie Hunt, 56, passed away unexpectedly at home March 17, the final page of a life as unique as Bakersfield, the city she loved. Launi Abbott was born here June 25, 1959, to Donna and Ron, grew up in the northeast and graduated from Highland in 1977. For 30 years, she was one of the community's premier real estate agents, and her love for the profession and for helping thousands is legendary. There's a reason "911" was part of her cell number. She believed her greatest accomplishment was her son, born in 1981 to her and Dan Hunt, who died in 1997. She was a steadfast Catholic who conquered many setbacks and challenges through sheer force of will, sharp wit and low tolerance for B.S. She was a rock and inspiration to her family - Pacheco, Abbott or Hunt - and her devotion extended to colleagues, whom she felt were family, too. She loved her dogs, remodeling countless homes, living along the Kern River, Westchester and the '08. She was a classy trendsetter like Jackie O. and Princess Diana. She loved to cook, was a fabulous host and brought humor and energy to every room she walked into. Buck Owens was her ringtone. She had funny license plates: 2BLAUNI, SHORT EM and LOS IN LA. She was the quintessential Bakersfield girl from start to finish. Launi is survived by many family and friends, including son Daniel, daugther-in-law Amanda and grandson Liam Bayard Hunt of Sacramento; father Ron Abbott of Palm Coast, Fla.; brother Curtis Abbott; longtime companion Joe Cox; aunt and second mom Phyllis Gibson and her children, Garrett Pacheco and Tracine Hallum; Jackie Abbott-Epner of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; countless children in the family whom she adored as her own; and loyal assistant Raquel Gonzalez. Visitation and rosary is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn along Panorama. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Church followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to Friends of the Kern County Animal Shelters Foundation, Autism Speaks or the St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Center on Baker Street. Launi was an original and amazing human being and beautiful lady. She could light up the room with her energy and smile. She had an amazing life story and was living proof that you could change your world if you had the desire. With that talent, she raised a fantastic and kind son Daniel. She was so proud of him. She raised him as a single mom for most of his life and she took fantastic pride in putting him thru the best schools, cotillion and anything she could. She was an great cook, her home was immaculate and she had talent on loan from god in the decorating field. She was my inspiration and my mentor for many years. She taught me so much about so many things and I don't know that I ever realized how much until the last 2 weeks have passed. There is a void in our lives and she will be missed. Her personality was huge and yet so kind and the first one in line to help you when you needed a friend. Whether it was a phone call, a random card in the mail or a meal, she would often just let you know she was thinking about you.

In her career, many people were served and able to get their dream homes. After many years in the real estate industry, it became a passion for her start helping people get out of foreclosure and either save their home or short sale. She was known statewide. She was one of the best ever in the business. She rescued many.

What she had she shared with everyone she could. She didn't brag about it, she just did it.

Our prayers are with her entire family and many friends. Daniel, your mom loved you was so proud of you. She bragged about you and your family. I get some comfort knowing we have an angel named Launi now making a beautiful home in heaven and probably negotiating something on our behalf.

Launi, I will miss you so much and I am proud to have you be my friend.

With Love

I worked with Launi over 30 years ago at B of A and have many fond memories of our friendship. Her Jane Curtain "Cone Head" Halloween costume the fall she was pregnant with Daniel was hysterical and she pulled it off like no one else! We reconnected via phone a few years ago, reminiscing and laughing about old times. Launi was truly one of a kind and I have to say that my life was definitely richer having known her. My condolences to family and friends.

She was a doll, she took in our cat when we could not find a home for him. She loved him endlessly, until our return she gave him back to us. She was so full of joy and halliness. I am so sadden by her padding. Prayers to the family and friends she left behind.

Only second to the bond between this beautiful mother and her son is the bond created between herself and my son, Cameron. She loved him like her own and he her in return. She set high standards for him and he rose to every one. My heart aches for the loss of Launi in his life. Know my son that your Aunt will be expecting nothing less than greatness and success for your life. I'd bet my last dollar she will be vigil in keeping tabs on you from her mansion made of gold in Heaven, compiling list of this or that, that she feels she couldnt possible complete with out the help of her nephew.
