On February 27, 2018, Marianne Githens beloved wife of the late Stanley Zenith Mazer; dear mother of Jonathan Githens-Mazer (Gayle), Jeffrey Mazer (Debra Vinikour), Sharon Nealon (Gardiner) and Julie Lee (Jeff); devoted sister of John Lawrence Githens. Also survived by five grandchildren. Friends may call at the MITCHELL-WIEDEFELD FUNERAL HOME INC. 6500 York Rd. (at Overbrook) on Thursday, March 8th from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, March 9th at 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius Church. Interment private. Please omit flowers. I am so saddened to hear the news. Professor Githens, You will be missed! I had an opportunity to have been taught by Professor Githens in the mid-90s at Goucher. She was a steadfast adviser to me, a noble teacher and pedagogue. I will always cherish the memory of Professor Githens. May you rest in peace.

Professor Githens was amazing. I was in one of the first classes she taught at Goucher. I will always remember her humor and enthusiasm for whatever topic we were discussing. She is one of the many great memories and experiences I had at Goucher.

Professor Githens was an inspiration for me when I attended Goucher. I'll always remember her astute intellect, sly humor, animated, and ironic disposition. That she was a style icon and role model for women, made her even more special. I recall her as an engaging conversationalist. A light has gone out, RIP, Professor Githens.

Marianne Githens was one of the most outstanding professors I was fortunate to have had while at Goucher College. Her dedication to all her students was inspiring. Her innate eagerness to productively share her insight and grace always created enthusiasm. She will remain in the hearts of all those whom she touched.
