Suddenly on July 8, 2016, Molly Kenna Macauley of Roland Park, Baltimore, MD; beloved wife of the late William Jeffrey Sheppard and devoted life partner of Lee Lasky; dear niece of Robert Eugene Macauley of Carlisle, MA. Also survived by many cousins and her devoted dogs, Leo and Wilga. Family, colleagues and friends are warmly invited to attend a Christian Science Service in the Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 11am, in the Second Presbyterian Church, 4200 St. Paul Street, Baltimore, MD 21218. A reception will follow. Interment private. Please omit flowers. I don't know why so many years later I still think about her. I only worked with her a little bit. Her confidence, calm and belief in me really started my working life in the right direction. I helped publish a book for her while at RFF. She cast waves that others followed. I was hoping she would have been afforded a full life. I promise to do the most with mine

I met Molly at the College of William and Mary where she attended for her degree in Economics. I knew she was a wonderful person and a dear friend. In rememberance of Molly Macauley, PhD and her many contributions to space economics and warmth.

Molly was a senior researcher at RFF when I was a research assistant there back in the early 1990s. I remember her fondly and am shocked at the sudden loss of such a wonderful person.

We think of Molly everyday and try our best to internalize her way of being to keep her alive within us. We try to keep her bright light on shining against the darkness that has come with her absence. She was remarkable in so many ways in both her intellect and especially within her heart. Molly was our classmate at graduate school. Her death is a loss for all of us as well as for the economics profession.

A Goodbye to Molly Macauley

Dr. Molly Macauley was one of those individuals who made positive changes in our world. She was full of life and love and treated everyone as a friend. She was a brilliant scientist, teacher and advisor.

I know this because I was one of the fortunate ones who discovered her when she was a secretary for an attorney at Comsat. As I waited to see the lawyer, we struck up a conversation and I knew after a few words that Molly was special and needed to work in my Department of Satellite Earth Sensing. She was such a quick learner and contributor and while working full time completed her Ph.D. in microeconomics.

When we both left Comsat, we kept in close touch. Molly went to work for Resources for the Future (RFF), a Washington, DC think tank. Molly regularly volunteered to lecture wherever I was teaching whenever I asked her. She was usually a marvelous key speaker, report author or consultant on many space, science and engineering committees.

This marvelous woman was a true model for girls/young women who wanted to pursue science or engineering. She was driven to succeed and rose to the rank of Vice President of Research at RFF, as well as becoming a Professor at Johns Hopkins University.

I was especially touched by Molly's enthusiasm when early on we worked and travelled together. Molly had a particular love for soft yogurt anytime while driving that she spotted a yogurt shop she would cry out-STOP-which I did and we would get a cup of yogurt. Molly loved Lee Lasky, her long time partner, and deeply care for her dogs that she took running each day or evening. We got a kick out of Molly attending the BARC Ball, an annual formal event for which she would dress and bring the dogs in dog tuxes.

Saying goodbye to Molly has been very hard. I miss her so much it hurts

Our condolences to Molly's family. Molly was the wonderful wife of our departed USNA Class/Companymate, Will Sheppard. Molly attended our 30th reunion and was immediately welcomed and accepted as one of our own. We came across this news while searching for her info so we could invite her to our 40th.

My most sincere condolences. Molly was my Division Director and mentor at RFF.

When I was in Iowa holding my mother's hand for a month as she died, Molly called me every evening to make sure I was OK.

Molly's office was down the hall from mine. In the evenings when we were both working late, I'd stop by her office and I always learned something about how to be more a effective and also a caring woman in a professional setting. I mourn for the women who won't have that mentorship and for the rest of us for what we have lost by them not having it.

Most of all I will remember the effort that Molly put in to building other people in her organization and her great, great kindness.

She loved my roses and now I won't be able to bring them to her in the spring.

In the year 2000, our family reunion included a booklet of each of 13 members of Molly's mother and siblings. Molly wrote the story of her mom's life. The last paragraph spoke of Aunt Glo's activities in 2000, her rescue cat and Molly's dogs. She ended with "And when I visit, my departure is marked by the words I've heard since I was almost too young to remember: "Now be careful. If you ever get hurt, I'm gonna whip you!" I'll never get hurt, Mom!"

I had the pleasure of having Molly as a Latin student my four years at Falls Church High School, 1972-1976. Her parents allowed our Latin Club to use their carport to build the winning float--a huge pig made of chicken wire and stuffed with millions of napkins with a message in pig Latin to our opposing football team! We remained friends and kept in touch these many years.

No words can express our loss. Molly was truly a beautiful and inspirational spirit who influenced our lives. God made her special. I will always remember how special she was and how lucky the world was to have her in it.

Molly was my second cousin;my grandmother and her mother were sisters. I vividly remember how her mom was so very proud of this wonderful brilliant lady. Molly is one of 38 first cousins, of which I am one. Her mother and my mother were sisters. Her entire family was shocked at the horrible incident that took her life, and we are very saddened by the loss of our very special cousin. We always knew she was special. Personally, I shall miss Molly's yearly Christmas cards and the little notes she added. I wish I could have seen her just one more time. Go with God, Molly. We love you.
