Gilbert "Burr Head"'s Obituary

Gilbert H. "Burr Head" Thomas Jr. of Heavener, Oklahoma was born October, 1 1929 in Raymondville, Texas to Gilbert E. Thomas Sr. and Purdie Emma (Hampton) Thomas and passed away December 10, 2016 in Poteau, Oklahoma at the age of 87. 

 

He is survived by:

 

Two Sons:

David and Cathy Thomas of Heavener, Oklahoma

Tim and Dottie Thomas of Heavener, Oklahoma

 

One Sister:

Pauline Pitman of Carson City, Nevada

 

Seven grandchildren

 

13 great-grandchildren

 

1 great-great-grandchild

 

Good friends:

Terry Ray, Charles Lile, Danny Ramsey, and all his coffee shop buddies.

 

His beloved companion:

Sam the cat

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Elsie (Ferguson) Thomas; his wife, Earlene (Lockhart) Thomas; and a sister, Betty Stephens. Gilbert was a long time resident of Heavener, Oklahoma and was a coal miner, carpenter, and a rancher. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Heavener First Baptist Church.

 

Funeral services will be 10a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 in the Dowden- Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bob Cherry officiating.  Burial will be at Heavener Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden- Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.

 

Viewing will be from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
